GLEN ROSE – For the second time this season in District 6-4A competition, the No. 3 Glen Rose Lady Tigers handed the Brownwood Lady Lions a defeat, 55-45, Friday night.
Brownwood (21-10, 3-4) trailed Glen Rose (29-2, 7-0) by a 17-7 count after one quarter, 32-18 at halftime, and 49-28 through three periods. The Lady Lions were able to outscore the Lady Tigers 17-6 down the stretch, but the deficit proved too great to overcome.
“Our kids fought hard all the way to the final buzzer,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz. “We were down 20 at one point and cut it down to 10, but I have a bunch of competitors that fight to the bitter end. I couldn’t be more proud of them even though it is a loss. We just couldn’t find ways to string buckets together early and that killed our momentum. We showed we can compete against a Top 5 team in the state, but little things can come back to bite you if you don’t put it all together.”
Hannah Deen led the charge for the Lady Lions with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds while Icess Hall chipped in 13 points, Kate Tindol contributed seven off the bench, Jade Morin scored four, Nylah Hall chipped in three, and Trinity Roberts and Cassidy Brown both finished with two points.
Brownwood shot 35 percent (16 of 45) from the floor, including 27 percent (6 of 22) on its three-pointers, and 63 percent (7 of 11) on its free throws. The Lady Lions committed 20 turnovers but pulled down 35 rebounds.
Glen Rose was sparked a by a 26-point effort from Alexis Rynders and 21 points from Lily Melton.
