Durham Brown (13) scored a team-high 14 points for Brownwood (13-13, 0-3), which looks to snap its seven-game skid at home against Mineral Wells at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday

BROCK – Playing without leading scorer Casey Friebel, who missed the game due to illness, the short-handed Brownwood Lions were dealt an 82-38 District 6-4A road defeat by the No. 23 Brock Eagles Friday night.

The Lions (13-13, 0-3), who suffered their seventh consecutive setback, trailed the 6-4A front-running Eagles (19-8, 3-0) by a 19-7 count after one quarter, 40-15 at halftime, and 56-28 through three frames.

“It was a tough night for us,” said Lions head coach Will Parker. “We did some things offensively we haven’t really worked on and I was proud of the effort there. We have to get better on the glass for sure, but hats off to Brock, they have a great program. Hopefully we can go back and watch this film and get a little better ourselves.”

Durham Brown led Brownwood with 14 points followed by 13 from Elias Perez, seven from Ross Stasner and four points from Weston Wolf.

Brock was sparked by the 17 points Cale Pogue, 13 from Casen Meeks, 12 from Beto Davila and 11 points from Colt Matlock.

The Lions return home at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday needing a victory against Mineral Wells (4-20, 0-2) – which took on Graham (12-12, 1-1) Friday night – to stay in thick of the playoff hunt.

“We’ll finally have a game where we’ll probably have some size on people,” Parker said. “I’m excited to get back home and to get some of our guys rested and healthy and hopefully we’ll be ready to go at 100 percent Tuesday.”
