The following press release was issued Friday afternoon by the office of 35th District Attorney Micheal Murray:
35th District Attorney Micheal Murray states that a Brown County jury convicted Jamal Deon Baker of two counts of Aggravated Assault on Tuesday, December 17th.
The jury also assessed sentences of 40 years’ incarceration on one count and 10 years incarceration on the second count.
Assistant District Attorneys Elisha Bird and Cara Landers presented evidence to the jury that Baker stabbed a family member causing serious bodily injury by breaking the knife blade off into the victim’s hip.
Bird and Landers also presented evidence that Baker continued to try to stab another relative after the knife blade broke off. Baker was also charged with a felony offense for a separate incident in which Baker shot an individual.
During the punishment phase of the trial, the jury heard evidence of this shooting from 2022.
Parole rules will require Baker to serve half of his sentence day-for-day before he becomes eligible to be considered for release.
