Don L. Howard, born on October 1, 1953, in Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, Texas. A dedicated worker and provider, Don spent many years in the oil field and also worked at a brick plant, exemplifying a strong work ethic throughout his career.
Don’s educational journey began in his hometown of Ballinger and then graduated from Talpa Centennial High School in 1972. He approached life with creativity and passion; an artist at heart, he enjoyed drawing and working with his hands. His interests extended to woodworking, where he skillfully combined his artistic flair with his craftsmanship. Additionally, Don cherished collecting baseball cards and playing computer games. Above all, he found immense joy in spending quality time with his family.
On June 22, 1974, Don married Debra Lynn Jameson in Valera, Texas, a partnership that would stand as the foundation of his life. He was a loving husband to Debra Howard of Valera, a proud father to their two children, Jack David Howard of Abilene and Cynthia Dawn Howard of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and an adoring grandfather to his four grandchildren, Corbin Massey of Lake Brownwood, Cobi Howard of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Dadrian McGill of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Kealey Bouldin of Fisk.
Don is also survived by his siblings, Glynn Howard and wife Iris of Mount Vernon, James Howard and wife Trish of Goodrich, and Sandra Frank of Oviedo, Florida, alongside multiple nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Junior Howard and Viola Mae Collins Howard; one sister, Lisa Howard; and his paternal and maternal grandparents, Jack Howard and Oma Day Howard, and Venon and Irene Collins.
Don L. Howard will be remembered as a devoted family man, a hard worker, and a creative spirit, whose legacy lives on through his loved ones.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Valera Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Ralph Howell officiating. The family will host a visitation immediately following the service at Valera Baptist Church, 560 Lipscomb Street, in Valera. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
