HOOPS ROUNDUP: Early girls edge May, 54-51; May boys top Zephyr, 57-47

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns held off the May Lady Tigers Tuesday night for a 54-51 non-district home basketball victory.

Early trailed May 15-12 after one quarter, grabbed a 25-22 halftime lead, and carried a 40-35 edge into the final period.

The Lady Horns received 17 points from Jamie Vassar, 13 from Pearl Sharp, 10 from Jordan Simmons, eight from Aliyah Harlan, and three each from Gabby Benson and Cali Vargas.

The Lady Tigers were led by Jordyn Gerhardt’s 25 points along with 11 from Chloe Lord, nine from Mia Musick, four from Kenlyn King and two from McKenna Landes.

Early will next compete in the Miles tournament while May (2-6) will take part in the Hico tournament.

May Tigers 57, Zephyr Bulldogs 47

MAY – The May Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season with a 57-47 home victory over the Zephyr Bulldogs Tuesday night.

May trailed Zephyr 13-11 after one quarter, opened a 28-21 halftime lead, and extended the advantage to 40-29 heading into the fourth period.

The Tigers were led by 23 points from Kobey Morris, 12 from Ben Harrell, nine from Jackson Lusk, six from Brody Stice, five from Lane Goodson and two points each from Kaden Watkins and JD White.

For the Bulldogs, Bauer Blair recorded a team-best 11 points followed by 10 each from Cooper Walls and Ethan Byers, seven from CJ Byers, six from Reese Hamm and three points from Spencer Marwitz.

May will head to the De Leon tournament while Zephyr will take part in the Lipan tournament Thursday through Saturday.
