During the last chapel of the semester at Howard Payne University, Dr. Don Newbury ’61, university chancellor, and Jeff Dixon will be guest speakers.
Dr. Newbury will present the 35th reading of the “Littlest Jingle Bell,” a long-standing tradition on the campus. He will share a few remarks and then introduce HPU alumnus Jeff Dixon ’86 and another special guest, Anansi Flaherty.
Dixon is a retired coach from Alvarado. He has maintained a friendship with one of his former players, Flaherty, for more than 20 years. The two men will share about their connection, which was maintained while Flaherty was in prison. Dixon visited Flaherty many times, sent necessities to him often and made sure he always had a Bible. While in prison, Flaherty became a Christian. He was recently paroled and arrangements are being made for him to be baptized.
The community is invited to attend this special chapel service at 10 a.m. in Mims Auditorium on the HPU campus.
