MERKEL – The Brownwood Lady Lions improved to 2-0 on the young season with a second straight five-point road victory, 51-46 over Merkel Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions overcame a 25 percent (15 of 60) shooting performance from the field by hitting 57 percent (16 of 28) of their free throws while pulling down 29 rebounds and creating eight turnovers. Brownwood committed just seven turnovers.
Brownwood led 10-8 after one quarter, 29-26 at halftime and 41-40 heading into the fourth period.
Hannah Deen led the charge for the Lady Lions with a team-high 13 points followed by nine from Jade Morin, six each from Miranda Northcutt and Kate Tindol, five apiece from Lanie Johnson and Trinity Roberts, four from Icess Hall and three points from Inylah Hall.
The Lady Lions next visit Sweetwater at 6:15 p.m.
