Well, It is that time of the year again and the election process is in full swing. It is interesting that of the 46 Presidents (including current President Biden) 31 of them have had a military background. It should be noted that the President is the “Commander – in – Chief” of the United States Armed Forces however prior military service is not a prerequisite in holding the office of President.
Of the notables, who have served as President and served their Country are:
-George Washington, 1st President: General of the Armies
-Zachary Taylor, 12th President: United States Army
-Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President: United States Army
-Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President: United States Navy
-Ronald Reagan, 40th President: United State Army
In the United States Navy, there have been several ships named after Presidents: (a few mentioned below)
-USS George Washington (CVN-73) commissioned in 1992 Super Carrier
-USS Thomas Jefferson (SSBN-681) commission 1963-1986 Submarine
-USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) commissioned in 1989 Super Carrier
In the United States Army, there is one Army base named after a President: Fort Eisenhower in Georgia
As in years past, and still important today, casting your vote is one of the most important decisions one can make. Get out and vote. In a previous article, I mentioned being a huge football fan. My Air Force Falcons did not fare well against the Navy Midshipman recently. We have the Army Black Knights up next, and we will see what happens. Both Navy and Army are now nationally ranked and playing good football. This year’s Army/Navy football game is on December 14th, and should be a great
game. We will see who “sings second” this year.
