The City of Brownwood issued the following press release Friday afternoon:
The City of Brownwood recognized five employees who received the ISERVE award. The award was given during the annual all-employee ISERVE conference to those who have gone above and beyond and have embraced the City’s core values of Integrity, Service, Excellence, Respect, Vision, and Empathy. Maria Ibarra, Michele Halk, John Mobley, Ashley Belez and Nathan Church each received the ISERVE award.
MARIA IBARRA
Ibarra began working for the City of Brownwood in 2018 in Operations Support. She was nominated for this award based on how well she models the Core Values of service and excellence. She currently serves as the custodian and mail clerk at City Hall.
Ibarra is described as someone who takes a personal interest in others. She is highly reliable and does her daily tasks with precision. She is quiet but takes great care in her work and promptly responds to the needs of others. She is trustworthy in delivering Council packets and confidential materials. Her efforts make City Hall a clean and safe space for employees and citizens.
A co-worker said, “She never complains or acts like she is having a bad day.”
Another coworker said, “She is polite and works tirelessly behind the scenes with a heart of gratitude and is always helpful and courteous.”
MICHELE HALK
Halk began working for the City of Brownwood in 2020 in the Water Department and currently works for the Fire Department. She was nominated for this award based on how well she models the Core Values of excellence. She is described as dedicated, hardworking, likeable, and reliable. She is professional and her values are consistent with the core values of the city.
Her supervisor said, “She comes to work every day with a positive attitude. She conducts herself professionally, and her values are consistent with the core values of the city. She is a trustworthy team member. She is the face of the Fire Department, and is the first person customers see when they walk in the door. She always treats our customers with compassion and assists them to the best of her ability.”
JOHN MOBLEY
Mobley began working for the City of Brownwood in 1998 in the Parks and Recreation Department. He has held positions as a laborer, light equipment operator, and currently works in Facilities and Maintenance in the Parks and Recreation department. He was nominated for this award based on how well he models the Core Values of excellence, service, and integrity. Mobley is described as someone who has a great attitude and always makes sure the job is done correctly and with quality.
One co-worker said, “He ensures our parks are up to code and safe for all people. He sees what needs to be done and does it.”
Another coworker stated, “He always helps fellow employees with daily tasks, and the public with questions when approached at parks. He is always willing to serve and help the department and community.”
ASHLEY BELEZ
Belez began working for the City of Brownwood in 2020 in the health department. She was hired part-time as a PHP Specialist, moved to the Disease Management Specialist in 2021, and is currently serving as the SNS/MRC Coordinator. She was nominated for this award based on how well he models the Core Values of service.
She is described as someone who has a willing attitude and assists anyone with any task. She provides excellent service to the community and embodies excellence and service daily.
She coordinates MRC activities in the community with cooling and first aid stations to help those in need.
A co-worker said, “She has worked tirelessly to build the Medical Reserve Corps. (MRC) and recently was accepted to the National Association of County and City Health Officials, MRC workgroup where she will contribute to national initiatives and best practices related to the MRC.”
NATHAN CHURCH
Church began working for the City of Brownwood in 2019 as Utility Operator I and was promoted to his current position of Utility Operator II in the Utilities Department. He was nominated for this award based on how well he models the Core Values of service and excellence. He has both a Class C water license and a Class II Wastewater license. He is described as someone who always wants to make things better, who looks out for other people on the job site and works hard to get jobs done.
A co-worker said, “He is a great teacher and is very patient with customers and new employees. He has taken on a bigger role in the department over the past year and is currently training to learn the AMR meter routes to be able to assist when needed.”
His supervisor said, “He exhibits the ISERVE Core Values well on a daily basis. He is well versed in both the water and wastewater departments and goes above and beyond expectations.”
