The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday issued the following information on a pair of accidents recently that each resulted in a fatality.
The first accident took place at 7:58 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 on State Highway 279, 1 mile north of Brownwood, and involved one vehicle.
Michael Glenn Jacobs, 43, of Brownwood, was traveling north on a 2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100 motorcycle at an unsafe speed. The driver lost control while navigating a sharp left curve, collided with a guardrail, and was ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the center of the road. The driver was then struck by an unaware northbound motorist.
The second took place at 7:32 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at US Highway 183, 3.3 miles south of May, where a vehicle struck a pedestrian.
Francisco Garza III, 42, of May, was walking south on the paved shoulder of US 183, pushing a bicycle in front of him. To allow faster vehicles to pass, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck towing a 2021 Passport travel trailer moved onto and drove along the shoulder. The pedestrian was on the shoulder without any lighting on his bicycle or himself. The driver of Toyota Tacoma did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid a collision.
