Every is welcome to come by and share their memories of Nina and visit with family. Refreshments will be served.
Nina Beth Kohn was born on April 15, 1963 to Junior Murrell (Andy) and Frances Lucille Lowe Kohn in Denton, Texas. Nina’s parents moved around a lot, as her father managed different Goodyear stores. However, in 1971, he bought the Firestone Dealership in Brownwood, Texas, and the family remained there for many years. Nina graduated from Brownwood High School in 1981. She went on to attend Tarleton State University, then transferred to Howard Payne University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in education, while raising a family and juggling a full-time job. Nina met and married the love of her life, Prentice Brent Cox (Brent) on August 25, 1981 at the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood, Texas. They were blessed with two sons, Hunter Drew Cox, born August 1, 1986 and Gatlin Boone Cox, born February 25, 1983, both at Brownwood Regional Medical Center, Brownwood, Texas. Nina played volleyball, basketball and ran track in her junior high days at Brownwood High, and was a member of the Lionettes her junior and senior years, where she was a captain of one of the squads. She loved following both of her boy’s activities, as they were growing up, playing football, baseball and participating in dramatic productions. Nina loved animals from a young age. She had a “Dr Doolittle” characteristic with animals she came in contact with, in that she could “talk to the animals” and they loved her right away. She could not turn away a puppy dog in need of love. She cherished her 5 dogs; Bree, Remmy, Pistol, Foot and Squeaker.
Nina served as the Assistant Brown County Auditor, then the Brown Count Auditor for many years. She was well known and like by many in the Brown County Courthouse. She retired in 2017. Nina played an active role in the Bangs Baseball Association as their financial manager as well. She was a fun-loving cousin to a group of 14 and was well known for her legendary Halloween parties and many wonderful BBQ’s and Easter Egg hunts at the Cox farm. There was rarely an instance when you would find her without a Dr Pepper in her hand. Nina also loved to sing, and often harmonized with her sister’s. She also had a natural ear for music and could sit down at a piano or organ, and play a tune after hearing it once.
If you had the fortune to know Nina, then you were blessed with her unconditional, selfless love. We know you are home with Jesus and at peace.
Nina is survived by her husband, Brent Cox of Bangs, Texas; son, Gatlin Boone Cox and wife Alexa of Houston, Texas; sister, Katrina Kohn of Dallas, Texas; sister, Marcie Drew and husband, Pat of Early, Texas; niece, Mallory Drew and husband Kyle of Brownwood, Texas; nephew, Conner Drew of Brownwood, Texas; brother-in-law, Brian Cox and wife, Toni of Bangs, Texas; sister, Laura Kasse of Bangs, Texas; niece, Bailey Lawson and husband, Stephen of Early, Texas; and niece, Brista Kasse of Lometa Texas; her precious grandchildren, Paisley and Beau Cox and her great-nephew and niece, Rexton Tompkins and Quannah Gibbs.
