COLEMAN – The Bangs Lady Dragons were surprised to start the second half of District 5-2A volleyball action, as they suffered a five-set 26-24, 17-25, 19-25, 25-19, 16-14 loss to a Coleman squad it swept in the league opener.
The loss was also the second in a row for Bangs (15-16, 2-3) in which it wasn’t able to finish off a two sets-to-one advantage.
Playing without an injured Neeley Bradley, Kasey Solis and Ashlynn Sliger finished with nine kills apiece followed by five from Julia Scantling, three by Cameryn Harmon, two each by Ava Boren and Dyan McCurdy, and one by Justice Baker.
Boren dished out 23 assists while Baker added two and Solis was credited with ne.
Julianna Ethridge served six aces trailed by three from Cloey Petty and two from Boren.
Ethridge led the way defensively with 14 digs followed by 12 from Boren, 11 from Baker, 10 from Kylee Byler, nine from Petty, six from McCurdy, two apiece from Solis, Sliger and Scantling, and one from Harmon.
At the net, Solis finished with four blocks, Harmon added three, and Sliger, Boren and Scantling were in on one apiece.
The Lady Dragons return to action at 4:30 p.m. Friday as they host Hico, looking to avenge an early 5-2A setback.
