Time to give you an update on “my” teams for the 2024 season. So, let’s start at the bottom and go with the Brownwood Lions first. Why not? They are three and three. They’re not going to finish first in the District. They’re not going to finish second, but they will finish third. I don’t know if that’s a good spot or not. They may only play one or possibly two playoff games and that will compare favorably with what they‘ve done in the past, but that’s all. Next year will be their year but this one will be a struggle and it has been.
Small college, Howard Payne. What can I say? They drew a terrible start in the Conference play. In other words, they’re in there with three teams and they have to play them twice. Two of them are Hardin Simmons and Mary Hardin Baylor. Right now they are two and four on the year and they can finish up two and eight, but I still think this team is going to beat Hardin Simmons or Mary Hardin Baylor once. They’ve played pretty dog gone good against some very talented people.
Next, let’s go small college to big college – Texas. I had them picked to win all the way through. They’ve beaten Oklahoma. They are 5-0 I think on the year or 6-0, something like that. I think the key to their season happens this Saturday when Georgia comes into Darrell Royal Stadium and lays it on the line with Texas. This may be the game of the year! Texas-Georgia. Can Texas win? Yeah. Will they win? I don’t know.
Now to the pros. The Dallas Cowboys are intriguing to me this year. I mean, extremely, extremely intriguing. They spent all of their money on Dak Prescott. Can Prescott be a big time player for the Cowboys? He’s going to have to be because they are lacking in so many areas and they’re not strong depth-wise. Prescott, you know, he had a great game the other day but he throws like three picks and he’s – I don’t know – he’s “spacey” to me. My pick, the Cowboys will have to really, really, really overachieve to make it to the playoffs.
If they do, they can win one or two, and if they don’t Jerry Jones will go scalp hunting and there’s no telling what they’ll come up with.
I guess that’s all!
Until next time, so long everybody.
