Freshman Lions 34, Lampasas 7
The Brownwood Freshman Lions opened the District 4-4A Division I portion of their schedule with a 34-7 home victory over Lampasas at Gordon Wood Stadium on Thursday to improve to 7-0 on the season.
The Lions, who have outscored their foes 261-37, opened the scoring in the first quarter with a pair of 2-yard runs by quarterback Caden Wilson, and Aiden Jimenez booted the PATs for a 14-0 lead.
Clinging to a 14-7 advantage in the second period, Wilson’s 57-yard scamper extended the Lions’ lead to 20-7 at intermission.
Brownwood scored twice more in the third quarter as Trent Buffington found the end zone on a 20-yard carry, and Wilson tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Brody Bolton. Jimenez converted the PATs after both scores.
Defensive standouts included Hudson Deen with six tackles and a fumble recovery; Buffington with five tackles including three behind the line of scrimmage; Hudson Fry with five tackles and two for loss; Christian Gray with three tackles for loss; and Jackson Rainey and Cameron Diver both recorded a pair of tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Combined Team 22, Belton 6
The Brownwood Subvarsity Combined Team on Wednesday at Gordon Wood Stadium notched its second win of the season, 22-6 over Belton.
Both victories for the Combined Team (2-5) this season have come on Wednesdays in Brownwood, the other being against Lake Belton.
Offensively, Lajon Bush scored two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown, while Cannon Calvert threw a touchdown pass and converted a two-point conversion.
Defensively for the Lions, Brayden Tlahuel-Torres recorded eight tackles with a fumble recovery, followed by Brayden Middleton with six tackles and a sack, Jacob Green with five tackles and a sack, Kayden Luker with five tackles, Eli Waldrop with four tackles and an interception, Noah Coleman logged a sack, and Eric Klum forced a fumble.

Lampasas 21, JV Lions 20
The Brownwood JV Lions were unable to overcome a 15-point halftime deficit as Lampasas held on 21-20 Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium in District 4-4A Division I action.
The Lions (4-2-1), who trailed 21-6 at halftime, held Lampasas scoreless in the second half and reached the end zone twice. The difference in the contest, in which both teams recorded three touchdowns, was Lampasas converted all three of its extra points while Brownwood was 1 of 3 on two-point conversion tries.
Freshman quarterback Riggs Gray ran for over 160 yards and threw a touchdown pass to sophomore Conner Cornelius.
Sophomore JJ Lopez scored two rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the third quarter, which trimmed the deficit to one point.
The Brownwood defense came up with three huge stops deep in Lion territory to keep the team in the game.
The JV Lions have a bye next week and will play on the road at Burnet on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
