Lewis Miller Sharp III went to be with the Lord on October 8, 2024.
Lewis Miller Sharp, III, known by many names (Lew, Butch, Pop and his favorite was PaPa) was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 30, 1940, to Lewis “John” M. Sharp, Jr and Martha Belle Sharp. He graduated from Rogersville High School in 1958 and went to “the original UT” University of Tennessee Knoxville and Pharmacy School at UT Memphis. He served in the US Army for 3 ½ years as a Captain and was stationed in Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. During his military service, he met the love of his life, Jonelle Nelson, and they were married one year later. Following his military service, Lew and Jonelle moved to Brownwood in 1967, to be the Director of Pharmacy at Brownwood Community Hospital and would serve in that role for 44 years until retiring in 2011. While in Brownwood, Lew served his community through the Rotary, church elder, pastor, Pharmacist for health department, youth sports coach and friend/mentor to many in the community. If you were loved by Lew, you were in his circle of prayer and protection. Later in life, Lew found a passion for the people of Honduras on his mission trips.
Lew was preceded in death by his father Lewis “John” Sharp, Jr, his mother Martha Sharp, and wife Jonelle Sharp, Brother & Sister-in-Law James & Peggy Brady, Brother-in-Law Bo Nelson. He is survived by brother Patrick Sharp, sons: Kevin Sharp and spouse Shelley; John Sharp and spouse Michele; grandchildren: Hunter Stanford and spouse Shay; Bailee Wiggins and spouse Aly, Sharee Williams and spouse Luke, Peyton Sharp, great grandchildren: Rowen Stanford, Witten Williams, Blakely Williams, Cross Stanford and James Williams, Sister in Law Glynda Nelson, Nieces Cindy (James) Lowery, Tracey (Mike)Patterson, Holly Brady, Tara Nelson, Tralee Sharp, and nephew Rusty(Anna)Brady.
Though his earthly presence will be missed, his legacy of integrity, patience and love will continue for many years. The family will meet again in heaven. In honor of Lew’s passion for the University of Tennessee, family and friends will be wearing bright orange.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 at Heartland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Lew’s life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm October 12, 2024, at Southside Church with a reception to follow at Brownwood Country Club.
