ALBANY – The Brownwood Freshman Lions improved to 6-0 on the season with a 34-12 road victory over Albany Thursday.
The Freshman Lions, who have outscored their opponents 227-30, allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game and trailed 6-0 heading into the second period.
In the second quarter, however, the Lions scored on carries of 74 and 68 yards by Caden Wilson, and Wilson also tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Jimenez, who converted two of three PATs as Brownwood took a 20-6 halftime lead.
The Lions stretched their lead to 27-6 in the third quarter on a 20-yard pass from Wilson to Garrett Wilkerson, and Jimenez booted the extra point.
Then, in the fourth period, Brownwood extended its advantage to 34-6 on a 12-yard touchdown run by Trent Buffington.
Defensive standouts for the Lions included Buffington, Christian Gray, Hudson Fry, and Maddox Mendoza.

Stephenville 21, JV Lions 6
The Brownwood JV Lions dropped their first game of the season Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium, falling to Stephenville, 21-6.
Sophomore Matthew Rodriguez scored the lone touchdown for the JV Lions (4-1-1) on a 5-yard carry in the second quarter.
Defensively, the Lions made three stops with Stephenville driving deep into their territory. Durham Brown also recorded his fourth interception of the season.
The JV Lions begin District 4-4A Division I action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Gordon Wood Stadium, which will follow the freshman game at 5 p.m.
