The high school football season reaches its midway point in Week 6, as most 11-man teams are experiencing byes ahead of the start of district action, while six-man schools continue to gear up for their league slates:
Zephyr (4-1) at Santa Anna (3-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday
The Zephyr Bulldogs look to rebound from their first loss of the season, while the Santa Anna Mountaineers attempt to string together back-to-back wins for the first time in 2024.
Zephyr was dealt an 84-42 defeat by Strawn last week as the Bulldogs yielded 571 yards – 325 rushing and 246 passing – while tallying 338 yards – 180 through the air and 158 on the ground – but with four turnovers.
Wyatt Stevens rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns and also passed for 133 yards for the Bulldogs. CJ Byers added 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground while Reese Hamm threw for 36 yards and rushed for 11 yards and a touchdown. Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins also scored on a 1-yard run for Zephyr.
Trapper Schoenhals led Zephyr with three catches for 99 yards, Corben Gosnell added three grabs for 49 yards, Byers pulled down four passes for 19 yards and Evans-Rollins grabbed two passes for 13 yards.
Defensively, Schoenhals collected 12 tackles followed by Gosnell and Stevens with 10 apiece.
Santa Anna rolled to a 56-0 victory at Priddy last week as the Mountaineers produced 341 total yards – 265 rushing and 76 passing.
The ground game featured 149 yards and four touchdowns from Wyatt Strickland, 53 yards and a score from Eli Herrod, a 31-yard scoring sprint by Jayden Gibson and a 26-yard gallop to the end zone by William Perry.
Through three air, Brock Brown completed all three of his passes for 76 yards with touchdowns of 35 and 18 yards to Jeremiah Davila, as well as a 23-yard completion to Perry.
Defensively, Gibson led the way with six tackles followed by four each from Gibson and Davila. Strickland, Perry and Joseph Kelley each recovered a fumble for the Mountaineers.

Irion County (2-3) at May (5-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday
The Class A Division I No. 4 May Tigers look to keep their unblemished record intact as they welcome the Irion County Hornets for homecoming.
May dished out the second defeat of the season to Class A Division II No. 9 Iredell last week by a 62-14 count.
The Tigers generated 317 yards of total offense – 196 rushing and 121 passing.
Ben Harrell finished with 99 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, Kobey Morris contributed 58 yards on the ground and a score, and Jackson Lusk ran for 39 yards.
Through the air, Cayson Dail connected on 4 of 5 passes for 77 yards with three scoring tosses, and Harrell also hurled a 34-yard touchdown to Lane Goodson, who led the way with two grabs for 54 yards and a trip to the end zone. Morris caught a 25-yard touchdown, Kaden Watkins hauled in a 20-yard scoring toss and Harrell scored on a 15-yard reception from Dail.
Defensively, Mikey Scheriger recorded a team-best six tackles for May followed by Goodson with five, while Morris secured an interception.
Irion County suffered a 53-6 loss to Klondike last week and has also fallen to Buena Vista (59-14) and Rankin (60-12), with wins over Midland Holy Cross (52-50) and Garden City (44-40).
Players to watch include Colton Lawdermilk (336 rushing yards, 5 TDs; 4-70 , TD receiving), Parker Posey (240 rushing yards, 3 TDs), Luke Seahorn (297 passing yards, 3 TDs, 3 INTs), Kyle Hope (5-112 receiving), and James Crutchfield (3-80, TD receiving).

Blanket (4-0) at Woodson (3-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday
The Blanket Tigers seek their fifth consecutive victory to the open the 2024 campaign as they venture to Woodson Friday.
The Tigers, who have outscored their foes 234-8 this season, intercepted four passes, recovered a pair of onside kicks, and generated 300 yards in a half as they pummeled Throckmorton, 64-0, last week.
Blanket yielded just 95 yards of total offense as Cameron Aultman picked off two passes, including one that was returned 25 yards for a touchdown, while Dallas Shumaker also nabbed a pair of interceptions with a 57-yard pick six that capped the scoring.
Offensively, Kannon Kensing rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries, while Shumaker completed all three of his pass attempts to Mason Beck for 110 yards and three trips to the end zone. Aultman returned a punt 55 yards for a score as well.
Woodson is in the midst of a two-game skid with losses to Bryson, 56-44, last week and Aspermont, 72-57, the week prior. The Cowboys own victories over Harrold, 66-63, Ranger, 68-8, and Guthrie, 82-47.
Players to watch for Woodson include Gunner Oliver (612 passing yards, 12 TDs, 7 INTs), Britton Bellah (503 rushing yards, 9 TDs), Nicholas Romo (318 rushing yards, 7 TDs), Jace Munoz (298 rushing yards, 9 TDs), Carson Bellah (11-248, 4 TDs receiving) and Payton Malcuit (12-179, 6 TDs receiving).

Olfen (0-3) at Brookesmith (2-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday
The Brookesmith Mustangs target a homecoming victory against Olfen Friday, and to push their record back over the .500 mark.
The Mustangs suffered a 76-66 loss to Gustine in a shootout last week as standouts for Brookesmith included Adyn Ribble, who rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns, returned a kick 60 yards for a touchdown, and caught a 25-yard scoring reception.
Addison Heard returned two kickoffs 73 and 65 yards for touchdowns and also rushed for 81yards and another score.
Derrick Beard caught a 30-yard touchdown pass and returned a kick 63 yards for six points, while Isaac Haby contributed a 22-yard touchdown carry.
Vegas Gilliam was 2 of 3 through the air for 55 yards with a pair of scoring tosses.
Olfen has lost twice to Lohn this season, 36-0 and 53-6.

Goldthwaite (2-2, 1-0) at Hubbard (1-3, 0-1)
7 p.m. Friday
The Goldthwaite Eagles will attempt to follow last week’s shutout victory over Chilton in the District 10-2A Division II opener with another league win as they visit the Hubbard Jaguars, who fell to Meridian, 38-32, last week.
In the win last week, Goldthwaite jumped out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter, carried a 28-0 edge into the halftime, and tacked on its final 13 points in the third period.
The Eagles allowed just 97 total yards, all on the ground, with three takeaways. Meanwhile, the Goldthwaite offense generated 302 yards, including 240 rushing.
Luke Sanderson rushed for 90 yards and touchdowns of 17 and 28 yards and caught two passes for 40 yards with a 31-yard scoring reception from Aidyn Lee, who was 4 of 6 for 62 yards with a 22-yard touchdown toss to Casen Wiedebusch as well.
Landry Sanderson rushed for 112 yards and a 64-yard touchdown, while Lee also contributed 17 yards rushing with a 14-yard touchdown to cap the scoring.
Hubbard has defeated McDade (70-24), with losses to Dawson (62-0), Colmesneil (22-14) and Meridian this season.
Players to watch for the Jaguars are Keyvonyai Hawthorne, who rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns last week against Meridian, and Anthony Werverka, who added 72 yards and a score on the ground and grabbed four passes for 108 yards.
According to Harris Ratings Weekly, Goldthwaite is a 47-point favorite.

Mullin (2-3) at Lohn (3-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday
The Mullin Bulldogs were unable to take the field against Ranger last week, but hope to return to action – and the win column – against an improved Lohn squad this week.
Two weeks ago, Mullin hammered Moran, 49-0, as the Bulldogs needed just 221 yards – 174 rushing and 47 passing – to secure the win as Jeremiah Romero rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns, Dameon Gonzalez added 59 yards on the ground and scored twice, and Vash Langford finished with 45 yards with a trip to the end zone.
The through the air, Langford completed 6 of 11 passes with a 7-yard touchdown to Romero and a 3-yard scoring toss to Gonzalez.
Defensively for Mullin, Gonzalez recorded 13 tackles, Landen Romero added 11 and Jaiden Langford finished with 10. Vash Langford, who notched seven tackles, and Landen Romero both recovered fumbles.
Lohn has picked up victories over Olfen twice, 53-6, and 36-0, along with Lueders-Avoca, 60-0, with losses to Paint Creek, 30-8, and Three Way, 52-0.
Players to watch for Lohn include Barrett Brock, Fermin DeLaRosa, Dallas Keller, Connor Nuncio, Kadin Reeves, and Austin Ellison.

Priddy (0-4) at Rising Star (2-3)
7:30 p.m. Saturday
The Rising Star Wildcats look to return to the win column as they host the Priddy Pirates, who are eyeing their first win overall, for homecoming Saturday night.
Rising Star fell to Gorman, 42-20, last week as the Wildcats finished with 254 total yards – 145 passing and 109 rushing.
Anthony Pollard threw for 70 yards with one touchdown and one interception and rushed for 44 yards; Manning Miller rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 26 yards with a pair of picks; Dustin McGinn caught two passes for 33 yards and a touchdown; and Leland Schenk led the team with four receptions for 57 yards.
Defensively, Curtis Pruitt led the Wildcats with 17 tackles trailed by Logan Ratliff with 14, Kason McGinn with 13 and Dustin McGinn with 10. Pepe Bocanegra intercepted a pass while Dustin McGinn, Payton McGinn and Pruitt each recovered a fumble.
Priddy is a coming off a 56-0 home loss to Santa Anna last week.
In their most competitive game this season, a 43-34 loss to Trent, the Pirates received 255 rushing yards and four touchdowns from Brody Strew, 70 rushing yards and a score from Catfish Baird, and 41 rushing yards from Wyatt Frazier.

Both teams are seeking their first wins of the season as the Panther Creek Panthers visit the Blackwell Hornets Saturday night.
Players to watch for Panther Creek include include Nathan Steffy, Cason Ainsworth, Aidan Patterson, Malachi Bentley, Caleb Hale, and Caleb Story.
Blackwell players to keep an eye on include Cooper Claborn, Jacob Rivera, Eli Drake, Kreed Cummings, Jaxon Shipman, and Ryder Antilley.
