The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department will open its new office at 305 Booker Street on at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.

On Feb. 15, the Brownwood City Council and Brown County came to an agreement on the renovation, construction, ownership.
The renovations of the building cost $1,671,152 were expected to take 290 days. The City and County share a cost of $835,56 for the upgrades to the building.
The agreement designated the City of Brownwood oversee the renovation of 13,400 sq. ft. of space and the City of Brownwood will maintain ownership of the building. The City may lease a portion of the unoccupied space (5,600 sq. ft.) to the County on terms to be agreed upon by both parties.
The current Health Department at 510 East Lee Street is jointly owned by Brown County and the City of Brownwood. The demand for public health services has increased dramatically, and the current facility does not adequately serve the needs of residents and the services they are seeking.
