May 62, Iredell 14
IREDELL – The Class A Division I No. 5 May Tigers kept their perfect record intact, handing the Class A Division II No. 4 Iredell Dragons a 62-14 defeat Friday night.
May (5-0) generated 317 yards of total offense – 196 rushing and 121 passing – against the Iredell (3-2) defense.
Ben Harrell finished with 99 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, Kobey Morris contributed 58 yards on the ground and a score, and Jackson Lusk ran for 39 yards.
Through the air, Cayson Dail connected on 4 of 5 passes for 77 yards with three scoring tosses, and Harrell also hurled a 34-yard touchdown to Lane Goodson, who led the way with two grabs for 54 yards and a trip to the end zone. Morris caught a 25-yard touchdown, Kaden Watkins hauled in a 20-yard scoring toss and Harrell scored on a 15-yard reception from Dail.
Defensively, Mikey Scheriger recorded a team-best six tackles for May followed by Goodson with five, while Morris secured an interception.
Next week, the Tigers welcome Irion County (2-3), which fell to Klondike, 53-6, Friday night.

Strawn 84, Zephyr 42
ZEPHYR – The Class A Division II No. 7 Zephyr Bulldogs were knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Strawn Greyhounds tallied an 84-42 road victory Friday night.
Strawn (3-2) generated 571 yards – 325 rushing and 246 passing – against the Zephyr (4-1) defense, while the Bulldogs tallied 338 yards – 180 through the air and 158 on the ground – with four turnovers.
Wyatt Stevens rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns and also passed for 133 yards for the Bulldogs. CJ Byers added 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground while Reese Hamm threw for 36 yards and rushed for 11 yards and a touchdown. Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins also scored on a 1-yard run for Zephyr.
Trapper Schoenhals led Zephyr with three catches for 99 yards, Corben Gosnell added three grabs for 49 yards, Byers pulled down four passes for 19 yards and Evans-Rollins grabbed two passes for 13 yards.
Defensively, Schoenhals collected 12 tackles followed by Gosnell and Stevens with 10 apiece.
Next week, Zephyr looks to bounce back at Santa Anna (2-2), which was scheduled to visit Priddy (0-3) Saturday night.

Gustine 76, Brookesmith 66
GUSTINE – In an offensive shootout, the Brookesmith Mustangs were denied in their bid for their first win streak of 2024 as the Gustine Tigers remained undefeated, 76-66.
Standouts for Brookesmith (2-2) against Gustine (4-0) included Adyn Ribble, who rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns, returned a kick 60 yards for a touchdown, and caught a 25-yard scoring reception.
Addison Heard returned two kickoffs 73 and 65 yards for touchdowns and also rushed for 81yards and another score.
Derrick Beard caught a 30-yard touchdown pass and returned a kick 63 yards for six points, while Isaac Haby contributed a 22-yard touchdown carry.
Vegas Gilliam was 2 of 3 through the air for 55 yards with a pair of scoring tosses.
Next week, the Mustangs are scheduled to host Olfen, which has lost all three of its outings this season.

Richland Springs 48, Giddings Lone Star 0
RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Class A Division II No. 2 Richland Springs Coyotes chalked up their third shutout victory of the season Friday night, coasting past Giddings Lone Star, 48-0.
The Coyotes (5-0) produced 232 total yards – 129 on the ground and 103 through the air.
Billy Perry passed for 103 yards and three touchdowns – two to Hutton Rogers from 7 and 10 yards out, and a 10-yarder to Brice Roesler. Perry also rushed for 60 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 16 yards.
Gage Behrens tacked on 46 yards on the ground and scored twice from 3 and 43 yards out.
Cohen Ethridge chipped in a 36-yard reception and 23 yards rushing, while Hudson Tharp grabbed two catches for 25 yards and Ethan Deeds hauled in an 8-yard catch.
Defensively, Petty tallied nine tackles, two sacks and a recovered a fumble, while Ethridge and EJ Aviles also finished with nine tackles. Behrens recorded two sacks while Rush Norris and Jim Eckermann each tallied one sack.
Next week, the Coyotes have the night off as they return to the field Oct. 11 at Brookesmith (2-2), which is coming off a 76-66 loss to Gustine, in the District 15-A Division II opener for both teams.

Goldthwaite 41, Chilton 0
GOLDTHWAITE – The Goldthwaite Eagles kicked off District 10-2A Division II action with a resounding 41-0 victory Friday over the Chilton Pirates, one of the teams predicted to finish ahead of head coach Andy Howard’s squad in the preseason.
Goldthwaite (2-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter, carried a 28-0 edge into the halftime, and tacked on its final 13 points in the third period.
The Eagles allowed just 97 total yards, all on the ground, to Chilton (1-3, 0-1) with three takeaways. Meanwhile, the Goldthwaite offense generated 302 yards, including 240 rushing.
Luke Sanderson rushed for 90 yards and touchdowns of 17 and 28 yards and caught two passes for 40 yards with a 31-yard scoring reception from Aidyn Lee, who was 4 of 6 for 62 yards with a 22-yard touchdown toss to Casen Wiedebusch as well.
Landry Sanderson rushed for 112 yards and a 64-yard touchdown, while Lee also contributed 17 yards rushing with a 14-yard touchdown to cap the scoring.
Next week, Goldthwaite hits the road to face Hubbard (1-3, 0-1), which dropped its district opener to Meridian, 38-32, Friday night.

Cross Plains 42, Sterling City 18
CROSS PLAINS – The Cross Plains Buffaloes halted a two-game skid with a 42-18 triumph over Sterling City in their pre-district finale.
The Buffaloes (3-2) finished with 417 yards – 248 passing and 169 rushing – without a turnover, while holding Sterling City (2-3) to 199 yards, and only 21 passing, with two takeaways.
Quarterback Kade Purvis threw four touchdown passes, completing 18 of 27 attempts for 248 yards. Tyler Mackey caught 10 passes for 122 yards with a touchdown, Gray Albrecht finished with six grabs for 78 yards and two scores, and Rylen Reed hauled in three catches for 39 yards and scored once.
On the ground, Mackey rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown, Purvis tacked on 60 yards, and Albrecht scored on a 10-yard carry.
Colt Sanderson led the defense with seven tackles, including three for loss; Jessey Bradford added six tackles with two for loss and a sack; Mackey also tallied six tackles with three for loss; Landry Savell collected six tackles as well; and Purvis intercepted a pass, while Albrecht recovered a fumble.
After a bye next week, Cross Plains opens District 7-2A Division II action Oct. 11 at Roscoe (1-4), which picked up its first win over New Home, 26-6, Friday night.

Hamilton 40, San Saba 21
SAN SABA – The San Saba Armadillos were unable to knock Hamilton from the undefeated ranks in Friday’s pre-district finale, falling at home by a 40-21 count.
San Saba (3-2) was held to 225 yards – 167 rushing and 58 passing – by the Hamilton (5-0) defense.
Luke Tharp rushed for a team-high 110 yards and completed 4 of 10 passes for 56 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Levi Glover finished with two receptions – both touchdowns – covering 58 yards and rushed for 27 yards, while Jason Everett added a touchdown and 20 yards on the ground.
Defensively for the Armadillos, Everett logged 22 tackles trailed by 19 tackles and an interception from Glover, 17 tackles and a sack from Winton Lackey, and 10 tackles from Kolton Pierce.
After a bye next week, San Saba kicks off District 14-A Division I competition on Oct. 11 at Johnson City (2-3), which suffered a 62-28 loss to Thrall Friday night.

Collinsville 52, Coleman 6
GRAHAM – The Coleman Bluecats completed their pre-disrict slate without a victory as they suffered a 52-6 loss to Class 2A Division II No. 7 Collinsville Friday night in neutral site action.
The Bluecats (0-5) were limited to 174 yards – 123 passing and 51 rushing – while Collinsville (5-0) manufactured 505 yards – 329 through the air and 176 on the ground.
Coleman’s Brayden Torres completed 8 of 16 passes for 123 yards with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Stewart, who led the Bluecats with four grabs for 66 yards. Anthony Espitia added two catches for 29 yards while rushing for 21 yards. Torres also led Coleman with 25 yards rushing while Blaine Bouldin and Javon Christophe added 13-yard receptions.
After a bye next week, preseason District 5-2A Division I favorite Coleman seeks a fresh start in the Oct. 11 league opener at undefeated Hamilton (5-0), which downed San Saba, 40-21, Friday night.
