In a game moved to Thursday night due to a lack of officials, the Blanket Tigers target their fourth consecutive victory in head coach Jalen Helms’ first season as they play host to the Throckmorton Greyhounds.
Blanket has outscored its three foes this season 170-8, as the Tigers are coming off a 56-8 triumph over Santa Anna last week.
In their latest win, the Tigers amassed 300 total yards – 270 on the ground and 30 through the air.
Kannon Kensing rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns, Cameron Aultman added 72 yards and three rushing scores, and Dallas Shumaker picked up 61 yards on the ground and scored once.
Aultman also hurled a 20-yard touchdown to Kensing, and Shumaker completed a 10-yard pass to Brian Shannon.
Kensing also returned a kick 54 yards for a touchdown.
On defense, the Tigers forced eight turnovers – five fumbles and three inceptions – as Aultman picked off two passes, Shumaker nabbed one, and Abel McLaughlin, Ethan Tomme, Mason Beck, Kade Russell, and Kensing each pounced on a loose ball.
Throckmorton, a member of District 9-A Division II predicted to finish second in the league, has started its season with losses to Bluff Dale (46-0), Harrold (39-33) and Bryson (54-6).

The Class A Division I No. 5 May Tigers eye their fifth consecutive victory of the James Ball coaching era as they visit the Class A Division II No. 4 Iredell Dragons.
May has notched victories over Sidney (51-0), Oglesby (66-45), Rochelle (85-40) and Newcastle (72-22), while Iredell has defeated Covington (54-8), Walnut Springs (51-6) and Gorman (54-8), with its only loss to Newcastle (50-22) in the season opener.
May is coming off its victory over Newcastle last week as the Tigers produced 454 yards of total offense – 231 rushing and 223 passing.
Ben Harrell rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 90 yards and two more scores. Kobey Morris completed all four of his pass attempts for 123 yards with a touchdown, caught two passes for 37 yards and reached the end zone once, and tacked on 68 rushing yards and another score. Jackson Lusk finished with five receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a 6-yard score.
Defensively, Lane Goodson led the charge with 15 tackles followed by Harrell with nine tackles and an interception; Mikey Scheriger with seven tackles and an onside kick recovery; Lusk with six tackles; Kaden Watkins with four tackles; and Morris with three tackles.

The Class A Division II No. 7 Zephyr Bulldogs put their unblemished mark on the line Friday night as the Strawn Greyhounds come to town.
Zephyr has knocked off Veribest (29-27), Blackwell (56-8), Gorman (51-20) and Lingleville (48-16) to start the season, while Strawn has split its games with wins over Custer-Hysham-Melstone, Montana (71-21) and Bryson (56-27), with losses to Knox City (75-54) and Gordon (60-14).
In last week’s victory over Lingleville, Zephyr finished with 338 yards of total offense – 295 on the ground and 43 through the air – while allowing 181 yards – 124 passing and 57 rushing – with a pair of takeaways.
Chayden Woodcock rushed for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Wyatt Stevens ran for 77 yards and one score and completed 5 of 10 passes for 43 yards and another touchdown. Reese Hamm caught a 12-yard touchdown and rushed for 35 yards, CJ Byers finished with 20 yards rushing and a touchdown to go along with two catches for 11 yards, and Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown, while also returning an interception 26 yards for a score.
Defensively, Woodcock collected a team-high 13 tackles trailed by Evans-Rollins with 11, Corben Gosnell with seven, Byers with six, and Stevens and Hamm with five tackles apiece. Stevens joined Evans-Rollins with an interception as well.

Fresh off a bye, the Brookesmith Mustangs look to knock the Gustine Tigers from the ranks of the unbeaten as the two teams clash Friday night.
Brookesmith has collected victories over Mullin (52-25) and Moran (55-6), to go along with a loss to Bluff Dale (32-20), while Gustine has upended Paint Creek (58-30), Buckholts (70-20) and Priddy (59-14).
The Mustangs’ most recent outing against Moran featured Adyn Ribble carrying the ball six times and scoring six touchdowns for Brookesmith, which amassed 242 yards on the ground in the process.
Vegas Gilliam completed all three of his pass attempts for 80 yards with a touchdown of 35 yards to Derrick Beard. Gilliam also returned a kick 51 yards for a touchdown.
Addison Heard rushed for a 50-yard touchdown and returned a kick 73 yards for six points.
Defensively for Brookesmith, Beard led way with nine tackles trailed by Ribble with eight, and Gilliam with six and an interception.

The Coleman Bluecats look to establish some positive momentum in their final game before district as they tangle with the undefeated Collinsville Pirates in a neutral site contest.
The Bluecats are coming off a 35-22 loss to Cisco in which Coleman finished with 297 yards – 244 rushing and 53 passing – with one turnover, while allowing 433 yards, with 306 coming through the air.
Blaine Bouldin rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown for Coleman, while Brayden Torres tacked on 72 yards and a touchdown and Anthony Espitia added 46 yards and scored once. Through the air, Torres was 7 of 12 for 53 yards with an interception. Kelan Sikes caught two passes for 18 yards, Espitia finished with two for 14, and Braylon Stewart grabbed two receptions for 13 yards.
Collinsville is led by quarterback Jaxon Jenkins (501 passing yards, 10 TDs, 3 INTs), receivers Chad Davidson (6-194, 5 TDs), Cash Morgan (15-102, 3 TDs) and Paxton Davidson (10-65, TD), and running backs Garrett Trevino (262 yards, TD) and Landry Spivey (144 rushing yards).
Defensively, Trevino has already amassed 61 tackles along with 31 from Chase Sheppard, 27 from Paxton Davidson, 25 from Morgan and 23 from Jaxon Spivey.

Hamilton (4-0) at San Saba (3-1)

The San Saba Armadillos will attempt to derail the undefeated Hamilton Bulldogs as the two former district rivals square off in their final games before the start of league action.
San Saba’s only loss was to Junction (28-27), with wins over Grape Creek (14-2), Goldthwaite (20-12) and Waco Reicher (60-0). Hamilton has knocked off Millsap (33-18). Early (41-21), Crawford (38-22) and Clifton (27-7).
In San Saba’s rout of Reicher last week, the Armadillos produced 444 yards of total offense – 380 rushing and 64 passing.
Luke Tharp rushed for 126 yards and passed for 60 yards and a 21-yard touchdown to Preston Gray. Alex Estrada chipped in three scores on the ground and 78 yards, Jason Everett ran for 43 yards and a touchdown, Alex Aguirre and Kaylub Roberts both finished with 29 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Graden Lebow tacked on a 13-yard touchdown carry.
Defensively, Everett led the way with 12 tackles followed by eight each from Roberts and Winton Lackey, and seven from Jefferson Stencil. Estrada and Rayland Saucillo both recovered fumbles for the San Saba defense.
Hamilton finished with 387 yards of total offense – 232 rushing and 155 passing – in last week’s victory over 3A Division II Clifton, while giving up just 179 yards, with 118 of those coming on the ground. The Bulldogs also forced a pair of turnovers, and did not cough up the ball against Clifton.

Chilton (1-2, 0-0) at Goldthwaite (1-2, 0-0)

After a week off, both the Goldthwaite Eagles and Chilton Pirates begin their District 10-A Division II schedules Friday night.
Goldthwaite owns a victory over Center Point (62-6), with losses to Junction (40-6) and San Saba (20-12), while Chilton has defeated Hearne (13-6) and since lost to Italy (21-6) and Marlin (43-0).
In Goldthwaite’s last outing against San Saba, the Eagles finished with 270 yards of total offense – 216 rushing and 54 passing.
Luke Sanderson rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 80 yards, while Max Storm led the way with 89 yards on the ground. Quarterback Aidyn Lee completed 7 of 15 passes for 54 yards and added 10 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Goldthwaite allowed 302 yards of total offense – 192 rushing and 110 passing.
In Chilton’s lone win of the season against Hearne, the Pirates rushed for all 215 of their yards and surrendered 181 yards – 125 through the air and only 53 on the ground. The Pirates also overcame two turnovers – one interception and one fumble – in part by picking off a pass on defense.

Sterling City (2-2) at Cross Plains (2-2)
7 p.m. Friday
The Cross Plains Buffaloes will attempt to conclude their pre-district slate on a positive note and halt a two-game skid as they welcome the Sterling City Eagles.
Since wins over Haskell (24-22) and Abilene TLCA (64-8), the Buffaloes have come up short against Hico (42-14) and Tahoka. Sterling City has started its campaign with victories over Odessa Compass (41-38) and Winters (45-0), to go along with losses to Miles (55-20) and Christoval (29-0).
Last week against Tahoka, the Buffaloes finished with 226 total yards – 144 rushing and 82 passing – but lost five fumbles, and gave up 419 yards with one takeaway.
Kade Purvis completed 9 of 16 passes for 82 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 76 yards and another score for the Buffaloes. Rylen Reed caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Mackey added three grabs for 34 yards and 23 rushing yards. Kevin Hopkins tacked on 45 rushing yards.
Defensively, Gray Albrecht tallied eight tackles and intercepted a pass while Jessey Bradford registered seven tackles, Purvis finished with six, and Mackey, Colt Sanderson and Bryson Barron notched five apiece. Mackey also recorded a sack.
Sterling City is led by running back Seth Turner (482 rushing yards, 8 TDs), quarterback Nano Turner (191 passing yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) and receivers Cruz Dominguez (5-69, TD), Slate Clark (5-69, TD) and Alexander Gaston (5-48).

Santa Anna (2-2) at Priddy (0-3)

In a game moved to Saturday due to a lack of officials, the Priddy Pirates are still seeking their first victory while the Santa Anna Mountaineers hope their roller coaster ride to the season enjoys a peak in Week 5.
Santa Anna has knocked off Bronte (42-22) and Ranger (69-24), with losses to Veribest (78-0) and Blanket (56-8). Priddy has fallen to Walnut Springs (69-22), Trent (43-34) and Gustine (59-14).
Last week against Blanket, the Mountaineers’ effort was sparked by Jeremiah Davila’s 52-yard touchdown catch from Brandon Brown, and William Perry’s 53-yard rushing performance.
Defensively, Wyatt Strickland recorded a team-high six tackles with two interceptions followed by Jayden Gibson with five tackles and Brown and Aiden Calfa with four apiece.
In their outing against Trent earlier this month, the Pirates received 255 rushing yards and four touchdowns from Brody Strew, 70 rushing yards and a score from Catfish Baird, and 41 rushing yards from Wyatt Frazier.

Giddings Lone Star Southeast (1-1) at Richland Springs (4-0)

The Class A Division II No. 2 Richland Springs Coyotes continue to maul opponents, and look for their fifth consecutive victory to open the 2024 campaign against Giddings Lone Star Southeast.
In last week’s 70-7 win over Burkeville, the Coyotes generated 227 yards – all on the ground – scored three defensive touchdowns, and also reached the end zone on special teams.
Billy Perry rushed for 104 yards and two scores, while also recording touchdown carries were Cohen Ethridge (47 yards), Rush Norris (26 yards), Gage Behrens (17 yards), and Brice Roesler (1 yard). Ethan Deeds also rushed for 32 yards on his lone carry.
Ethridge ran the lone kick by Burkeville (1-2) back 53 yards for a touchdown, while EJ Aviles scored on interception returns of 19 and 50 yards, and Perry added a 22-yard pick six to cap the scoring.
Giddings Lone Star is coming off a 40-19 victory over Calvert last week, after starting its season with a 46-0 loss to Huntsville Alpha Omega.

In a battle of the Class A Division II Top 10 teams, the No. 6 Sidney Eagles visit the No. 3 Cherokee Indians Friday night.
Since a 51-0 loss to May to start the season, Sidney has reeled off victories over Eden (26-25), Stephenville Faith (58-12) and Bluff Dale (56-30). Cherokee, which is coming off a bye, owns wins against Highland (49-0), Leakey (51-6) and Round Rock Christian (46-0).
In last week’s win over Bluff Dale, the Eagles (3-1) finished with 338 yards of total offense – 204 rushing and 134 passing.
Leading the charge were Lehman Lindeque, who rushed for 88 yards and three touchdowns, passed for 63 yards and two more scores, and caught a team-high four passes for 40 yards. Ethan Scantling added 84 yards and a score on the ground, threw for 71 yards and another touchdown, and grabbed a 2-yard scoring reception.
Other offensive standouts included Dylan Terpstra with two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown and Rees Miller scored on a 19-yard reception.
Defensively, Lindeque recorded 16 tackles, followed by 12 from Scantling, 10 from Terpstra and 10 from Jaylon Salinas, who also recovered two fumbles.
In its most recent outing against Round Rock Christian, Cherokee produced 296 yards with 204 coming on the ground, while giving up just 86 yards – 70 passing and only 16 rushing.

The Rising Star Wildcats set their sights on their first win streak of the season, while the Gorman Panthers attempt to end a two-game skid.
Rising Star has flip-flopped wins and losses this year, falling to Leakey (59-14), defeating Lingleville (20-0), coming up short to Perrin-Whitt (70-22) and downing Paint Rock (52-32). Gorman, meanwhile, has mustered only a 42-22 win over Stephenville Faith with losses to Lometa (32-8), Zephyr (51-20) and Iredell (54-8).
In the win over Paint Rock last week, Rising Star overcame four turnovers by generating 241 total yards – 174 passing and 67 rushing – as Anthony Pollard threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and Manning Miller passed for 82 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 67 yards with two more trips to the end zone and caught a 61-yard scoring toss.
Other receiving standouts were Curtis Pruitt (4-59), Pollard (4-34), Payton McGinn (3-66, TD), Kaiden Griffith (2-33, TD), Pepe Bocanegra (2-24) and Leland Schenk (1-2, TD).
Leading the charge defensively for the Wildcats were Pollard with 23 tackles; Miller with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery; Dustin McGinn and Payton McGinn with a dozen apiece; Pruitt with eight tackles; and Schenk with six tackles.
Gorman, which was picked to place fourth in District 13-A Division I in the preseason, is led by Nathan Rodriguez (185 rushing yards, TD; 69 passing yards, TD), Dakota Purdom (6-90, TD receiving; 81 rushing yards), and Joshua Pele (5-80, TD receiving; 17 rushing yards).

The Mullin Bulldogs’ task this week is back-to-back wins as the Ranger Bulldogs come to town fresh off their only victory of the season.
Mullin hammered Moran, 49-0, last week as the Bulldogs needed just 221 yards – 174 rushing and 47 passing – to secure the win as Jeremiah Romero rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns, Dameon Gonzalez added 59 yards on the ground and scored twice, and Vash Langford finished with 45 yards with a trip to the end zone.
The through the air, Langford completed 6 of 11 passes with a 7-yard touchdown to Romero and a 3-yard scoring toss to Gonzalez.
Defensively for Mullin, Gonzalez recorded 13 tackles, Landen Romero added 11 and Jaiden Langford finished with 10. Vash Langford, who notched seven tackles, and Landen Romero both recovered fumbles.
Ranger recorded a 50-0 victory over Cranfills Gap last week after starting the season with losses to Walnut Springs (72-27), Woodson (68-8) and Santa Anna (69-24).
