Two spell-bounding days of golf (September 28-29) are set to unfold on the 18-holes of The Hideout Golf Club and Resort.
This tournament will mark eight consecutive years that The Hideout has played host to this almost mythical Texas Amputee Golf Championship, and as the name implies, it will feature the best amputee golfers from Texas and Oklahoma.
“At stake is the coveted Texas championship, making this one of the most competitive amputee tournaments in the United States,” said Denise Hudson-Brian, Early Tourism Director (Visit Early).
Roy McCoy, Secretary/Treasurer of the Southwest Amputee Golf Association (SWAGA) says, “There are three things that keep us (amputees) coming back to The Hideout every year. First, it’s the support of Visit Early – Early Visitors & Events Center along with sponsors and the hospitality of the staff and management of The Hideout. The third ingredient is harder to put into words,” he says, “I will call it, the overall friendliness of this entire area. People here do more than just make us feel welcome. They make us feel special,” explained McCoy.
Hudson-Brian says, “When we take into consideration that 60 or more golfers are coming to this tournament (all from out-of-town) and most of them will bring family and friends, this becomes an economic windfall for our hotels, motels, restaurants and other businesses.”
Sam Brookman, director of golf at The Hideout, says we continue to be thrilled that this tournament chooses The Hideout to host the Texas Amputee Golf Championship. It takes a team effort to put together an event like this and we believe the golfers will be pleased when they find our 18-holes to be in premier condition.
Jerry Drummond of Manor, President of SWAGA coordinates this event from tee times to organizing foursomes to an array of trophies and prizes, ranging from golf clubs and other golf equipment that will be given away to participants. Many of these prizes will be door prizes given at the Saturday night banquet at the Early Visitors & Events Center.
“I want recognize Larry Hart, with Rackin’ Up Dreams Outdoors,” said Drummond. “Hart and his team will serve steaks at the Saturday night banquet.” Drummond also points to Hudson-Brian. “She is the real coordinator of this tournament. I want to call her our go-to-girl, but those words do not do her justice. Whatever we need, she makes it happen. She is unbelievable!”
