On September 14, 2024 the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department, Intersect Power, a clean energy company, and members of the Brown County community came together to celebrate the dedication of the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department’s new Community Center addition. The Community Center will be used as a meeting hall for the fire department, local activities including voting, dances, fundraisers, and as a community gathering place. The dedication ceremony was followed by the Fire Department’s annual fish fry and dessert auction.
Intersect Power provided a $145,000.00 donation to the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department for the construction of the new Community Center addition. Additional funding was provided by a grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority, and the families of James Bradley and Oneta Burch donated land for the Community Center’s parking lot.
“Intersect Power’s partnership and generous gift for the new Brookesmith Community Center has been invaluable. A community center has been a vision for many years, and Intersect’s support gave the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department the ability to finally bring the new facility to the residents of Brookesmith, and southern Brown County. This gathering place has been long needed and over time, we believe that the community center, much like the school, will further serve to bring a stronger sense of community and togetherness to Brookesmith.” – Chip Rodgers, Board Member, Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department
“We are honored to have supported the construction of the new community center and the work that the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department is doing. The Brookesmith Community Center is a reflection of the Fire Department’s commitment to not only keeping the community safe but a testament to their efforts to keep the community connected as well.” – Elizabeth Knowles, Director of Community Engagement, Intersect Power
Intersect Power is the developer, owner and operator of some of the world’s largest clean energy resources. On May 16, 2023, Intersect began operations at the 415 MWp Radian solar project, located less than five miles from the Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department in Brown County, Texas.
The project was built with 903,228 First Solar panels and generates enough clean energy to power more than 114,000 homes per year. Throughout its development, the project created more than 500 construction jobs and eight permanent operations jobs. Through our domestic supply chain, we also support the growth of U.S. manufacturing by sourcing American made products, including solar panels and steel.
