On September 13, 2024, Gwendolyn Joyce Allen MD PA returned to her lord and creator. Funeral services for Dr. Allen will be held at 11AM on Friday, September 27, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early with visitation held an hour prior to services. An additional funeral service for Dr. Allen will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 28, at Emanuel’s Baptist Church in Seguin, with visitation held an hour prior to services.

She was born to Frankie Fedford and John D Allen on February 24, 1956 in Brenham, Texas and lived a life of immeasurable service, courage, and love. She struggled through intense hardship in her youth, overcoming the odds to graduate first in her class at Brenham High School. She continued on to the University of Texas in Austin where she continued her academic success and met the love of her life, Larry Doby Wilson. The two married in 1978 and together they moved to Galveston where Gwendolyn attended UT Medical Branch. She soon became a doctor of incredible skill and caring, carrying out her residency in Austin, Texas and giving birth to her first son, Kellen. After finishing her residency, she and her family moved to San Saba, Texas where she practiced family medicine and touched the lives of everyone in this small community. In 1991, she was blessed by the birth of her second son, Jaron, and she decided to move her practice to Brownwood, Texas where she would spend the rest of her career. Doctor Allen was known for being late to start an appointment but never left that appointment until her patient was wholly served. She cared for every patient as though they were her only patient. Over the course of her practice, she healed the sick, soothed the hurt, and diagnosed the ailments that other doctors missed. Her entire life was spent helping others, being the bedrock to which we were all tethered. Doctor Allen suffered no foolishness, but never stopped loving. She collected a large spiritual family of sisters, brothers, sons and daughters. She fought to help others, all the way to the end.

Gwendolyn Allen was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her dear sister Valetta Camille Knight. She is survived by her grandson, Osric, her sons Jaron and Kellen, her daughter-in-law, Victoria, her nephew, Lawrence Knight Jr., and her husband, Larry Wilson.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
