The Brownwood Freshman Lions improved to 2-0 on the season with a 48-0 victory in their home opener Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The Lions raced out to a 27-0 lead after one quarter as quarterback Caden Wilson scored on a 61-yard keeper the first snap of the game, and Aiden Jimenez added the extra point.
On the first play of Brownwood’s second possession, Trent Buffington scored on a 51-yard scamper for a 13-0 advantage.
The Lions then scored on defense as a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown by Hudson Deen pushed the Brownwood lead to 20-0 after Jimenez’s PAT.
A Jimenez interception then up Brownwood’s next scoring march, which ended with a 42-yard run to the end zone by Buffington and the extra point from Jimenez.
In the second period, Deen tackled a Wall receiver near the goal line after a screen pass, which forced a fumble that bounced out of the end zone for a safety and 29-0 Lions lead.
Buffington then scored his third touchdown on a 15-yard run for a 35-0 halftime cushion.
In the second half, Wilson scored again on a 63-yard run in the third period and Miles Jones added a 4-yard touchdown carry in the fourth period.
Defensive standouts included Deen with six tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pick six; Hudson Fry with eight tackles; Hutton Malone with five tackles; CK Vasquez with two tackles, and a sack; Jackson Rainey with two tackles for loss; and Jimenez and Brody Bolton with an interception apiece.

JV Lions 30, Wall 30
Trailing 30-20 at the start of the fourth period, the JV Lions rallied to force a 30-30 tie with at Gordon Wood Stadium, and stand at 1-0-1 on the season.
Freshman quarterback Riggs Gray threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Sirr Beam and Gray also ran for a touchdown in the game.
Matthew Rodriguez and JJ Lopez scored a rushing touchdowns with Rodriguez added a pair of two-point conversions.
The Lions defense came up with a huge stop late in the fourth quarter, forcing a punt inside the Hawks 5-yard line. The Lion defense cashed in for a safety by Kadyn Avalos after a bad snap with 2 minutes to go, which tied the game at 30.
Durham Brown and Nick Rodriguez each had an interception on the night as well.
The JV Lions will play on the road next week on Thursday against the Glen Rose JV Tigers at 6:30 p.m., which follows the freshman game at 5 p.m.

Jim Ned 30, Lions Combined Team 8
TUSCOLA – The Brownwood Subvarsity Combined Team slipped to 0-2 on the season with a 30-8 loss at Jim Ned Thursday night.
Offensively, Cannon Calvert threw a touchdown pass tot Hayden Christiansen, and Lajon Bush added the two-point conversion.
Defensively, Brayden Tlahuel-Torres led the team with seven tackles, Jacob Green and Eli Waldrop both added four tackles, and Cristian Talamentez played well on the defensive line.
