The City of Brownwood issued the following information Tuesday morning:
This October, join neighbors throughout Brownwood as we celebrate National Night Out with block parties and community gatherings.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, and more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. 2024 will mark the 13th year Brownwood has participated in National Night Out.
National Night Out (NNO) is a unique event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and is held the first Tuesday in October.
National Night Out is designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
• Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs, such as Neighborhood Watch
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns, and neighborhoods ‘celebrate’ NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:
• Block parties
• Cookouts
• Visits from local police and sheriff departments
• Parades, exhibits
• Flashlight walks, contest, and youth programs
NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Plus, the benefits our community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.
The National Night Out for the City of Brownwood will be October 1st starting at 5:30 pm. If you are interested in having a party Contact Police Lieutenant Troy Carroll at 325-646-2525.
