This September, come and explore “The Fabric of Life” at the 3rd Annual Fiber and Textile Arts group exhibit at the Brownwood Art Center.  As in years past, this show will feature a variety of fiber and textile art for sale, including garments, wall hangings, needlepoint, crochet, and more. Gallery hours are 2-6 pm, Mon.- Fri.

The public is invited to a free First Thursday Opening Reception on Sept. 5, from 5-7 pm at the Art Center, 215 Fisk, in downtown Brownwood.  In addition to the usual light refreshments, this event will also include live music by classical guitarist Pablo Serna, a silent auction, and door prizes.

This exhibit showcases the work of members of the Brownwood Art Association’s Fiber and Textile Arts group, which meets at the Art Center every first and third Tuesday, from 2-4 pm.  “Anyone interested in fiber arts is welcome,” according to lead exhibit coordinator Susan Scott Smith.  “We want to include and encourage anyone who is using fibers and textiles in a creative way.”

The exhibit continues through Sept. 25, and includes additional special events at the Art Center.  All events are free and open to the public.  The first event is an Art Talk with guest artist Gary Anderson from Georgetown, Texas, at 1:30 pm, on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The following Saturday, Sept. 14, families with children are invited to come and make their own fabric owl wall hanging, from 9 am- 12 noon.  This event is for children aged 5-10, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Pre-registration is required by calling the Art Center at 325-641-2916.  No text messages please.

Finally, come and see Fiber Arts in the Making, on Tues. Sept 17, from 2-4 pm.  Members of the BAA Fiber and Textile Arts group will be working on their current projects in the Art Center gallery.  The public is invited to come watch the artists as they work.

For more information about the BAA, upcoming exhibits, other special interest group meetings, how to become a member, and more, follow the BAA on Facebook, visit the website, brownwoodart.org, or call 325-641-2916.
