ALBANY – The Brownwood Lady Lions placed third in the Albany volleyball tournament, which concluded Saturday, as they won five of six matches overall.
After sweeping their pool Thursday, the Lady Lions knocked off Abilene Christian, 25-20, 26-24, and defeated Albany, 25-11, 25-21, in the third place match, with the only setback Saturday coming to Breckenridge, 25-22, 25-20.
In the finale with Albany, which Brownwood also defeated in its first match of the tournament Thursday, Aubrie Felux led the charge with six kills trailed by Aniah Hines with five, Demayha Hooker with three, and Inylah Hall, Miranda Northcutt and Trinity Roberts with one apiece.
Icess Hall dished out nine assists, along with four from Hines and one each from Maddi Scott and Sara Stubblefield.
Felux also served a team-high three aces and Icess Hall contributed one.
Defensively, Scott recorded a team-best six digs followed by four each from Hines and Stubblefield, three apiece from Inylah Hall and Peyton Pena, two each from Jakayla Peek, Icess Hall, and Jentry Coalson, and one from Hooker.
At the net, the Lady Lions tallied 11 blocks – five by Hines, three by Northcutt, two by Roberts and one by Hooker.
In Saturday’s first match against Abilene Christian, Felux registered a team-best seven kills followed by Hines with five, Hooker with three, Northcutt with two, and Roberts and Stubblefield with one apiece.
Icess Hall recorded eight assists trailed by Hines with six, Scott with two and Roberts with one.
Hines served three aces, Hall contributed two, and Scott, Felux and Roberts logged one each.
Defensively, Scott chalked up six digs followed by Hines and Felux with three each, Roberts, Stubblefield, Peek and Icess Hall with two apiece, and Coalson, Hooker and Inylah Hall each with one.
Hines picked up two more blocks at the net while Northcutt and Roberts added one each.
In the loss to Breckenridge, Felux finished with six kills followed by three from Hines and one from Northcutt.
Icess Hall distributed six assists, Hines added three, and Hooker chipped in one.
Felux also served four aces along with two from Hines, and one each from Roberts and Scott.
Stubblefield’s seven digs were a team-best trailed by four from Scott, three from Hines and one apiece from Felux and Hooker.
Hines notched Brownwood’s only block of the match.
The Lady Lions (10-10) will be back in action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Bangs.
