Ralph Darrell Stephens, age 69, of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on August 20,2024. A visitation with his family will take place on Friday, August 30, from 6 to 8 PM at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, at 2 PM in the chapel at Heartland Funeral Home.
Darrell was born on March 22, 1955 in Houston, Texas to Floyd and Colleen Stephens. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Milby High School. Darrell proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and was stationed in Korea and several other places. When he came home, he had a long career as a truck driver. Darrell’s faith was important to him and he served as a deacon at the Avenue D Baptist Church from 1981 to 1982. Darrell married his sweetheart, Lynda in Brownwood and they enjoyed life together.
Darrell was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching their games. He loved taking care of his grandson who was the sunshine of his life. Darrell was a family man, he treasured being there for his friends and loved ones, especially the kids.
Darrell is survived by his children, Larry Penton, Leesa Perez (Marco) and Lorie Miller, all are residents of Rockdale, Texas; his grandchildren, Tristan Gilbreath, Christopher Maly, Andey Perez, Melinda Laran (Raphael), Andrew Perez,
Kylee Miller, Krysten McDaniel (Nathan), Joseph Miller, Jake Miller; siblings, Ronnie Stephens of Brownwood, Jeanie Stephens (Charles Vickery) of New Caney, Ricky Stephens of Houston; nieces and nephews, Jason Stephens (Shannon), Eric Stephens (Candace), Josh Stephens (Terra), Corey Stephens (fiance Shannon), Sheila Thomas, Dale Wayne Jr., Andrea Woodard (Jason), Sonya Tetts, Savannah Tetts; as well as numerous friends.
Darrell was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Lynda Gail Stephens; his brother, Dale “Shorty” Wayne Jones Sr.; his sister, Rachel Lindley and his daughter-in-law, Shana Powel.
