Brec Espinoza has dedicated much of her educational career to Brownwood ISD. Going into her 14th year with the district, she has served as a third-grade teacher, special education teacher, and a dyslexia specialist. Espinoza currently serves as the Dyslexia Coordinator and Educational Diagnostician with BISD.
When asked how she discovered her passion for teaching, Espinoza reminisced on her mother’s legacy.
“My mother was a teacher for almost 30 years. She had a passion for her students, especially students who learned differently and struggled to learn to read. I really gained my passion for working with students who learn differently from my mom.”
Espinoza states how the most rewarding thing in her teaching career has been to help students discover the “why” behind their struggles and move forward by working to access what has been felt limited by their struggles.
The biggest joy for Espinoza is the community that teaching brings with it.
“When I was in the classroom, my biggest joy was working with my friends (that’s what I call my students) every day. Even in my position now, I still love to see the students I work with and get hugs and smiles when I see them.”
Looking into the near future of this upcoming school year, Espinoza is hoping to expand the dyslexia program with BISD.
“We have come a long way in identifying our students with dyslexia and truly being able to provide exceptional interventions to help them be successful and overcome their struggles,” said Espinoza.
