Nell (Hammit) Thompson, born November 19, 1939, in Stamford, Texas, passed through the veil of tears from this world of sorrow to enter the glory of Heaven into the waiting arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on July 12, 2024.
She is survived by her second husband of eighteen years, Richard Dunn, her four children from her first marriage to Lee Roy Thompson, who preceded her in death – James “Jim” Thompson and his wife, Sherry, of Austin, Texas; Jon Thompson and his wife, Anissa, and two children, Corrie and Caleb, of Bulverde, Texas; Jason Thompson and his wife, Rina, and two children, Richard and James, of Stephenville, Texas; and Jana Thompson of Seattle, Washington.
Nell was also survived by her brother, Doug Hammit and his wife, Vi, of Arizona, and their children and grandchildren; her sister, Wanda Brewster and her husband, Norm, of Houston, Texas, and her children and grandchildren; and her sister, Sue Vaughn, and her husband, Daniel, of Brenham, Texas.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, James Dallas (“J.D.”) and Thelma Hammit, and her first husband Lee Roy Thompson.
A homemaker who found happiness in her children, a worker in many fields that she found employment in and was always the hardest worker at any task she set her mind to; she knew frugality, she knew hardship, but she knew love as well, and she knew prosperity. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Central Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas, in the early 1970’s, by the pastor of Central Baptist, Bro. Sylvester. It was her faith in Christ that she found hope when there often seemed to be none. A loving mother and grandmother, a caring wife, she will be missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at a graveside service at Bangs Cemetery, Bangs, Texas, where she will be interred.
