During Tuesday night’s Early City Council meeting, Mayor Robert Mangrum read a proclamation declaring Early a Texas Tourism Friendly City.
The proclamation states:
Whereas travel and tourism provide significant cultural benefits for the City of Early,
Whereas business events and leisure and travel for sporting events are all critical components to Early’s economy,
Whereas many of Early’s hospitality and tourism businesses are made up of mom and pop businesses and small businesses and are part of the foundation that makes Early a unique and memorable travel destination
Whereas visitors relish the many tourism offerings such as the Skies over Texas Winery, Los Treces, Early Town Center Park and Lake, Ranger College, Brown County Museum of History, Howard Payne University, Lake Brownwood, along with multiple running and sporting events, hiking and biking trails, lake activities and bird watching,
Whereas we acknowledge that all travel whether related to leisure, business, or sports is beneficial,
Whereas welcoming visitors from near and far always has and always will be the spirit of the travel industry in Early,
Now therefore I, Robert Mangrum, Mayor of the City of Early, do now proclaim July 9, 2024 Early is a Tourism Friendly Community.
At the May 14 City Council meeting, Council approved the parameters for a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Early and the Texas Music Office within the Officer of the Governor for Early to become a Music Friendly City, a first for Brown County.
Participation in the Music Friendly program provides communities with a network for fostering music industry development and sends a message to industry professionals that a community is committed to attracting and developing music industry growth.
City of Early Tourism Director Denise Hudson told the Council at the time, “We also have a request in with the Governor’s Office to become a Texas Tourism Friendly City, and being Music Friendly certified is one of the requirements. It’s of no cost to us and we get to determine our own board and rules.”
The meeting then entered an executive session to discuss property and economic development, followed by a budget workshop.
