WT “T” was born in Brady, TX, in 1938 to parents Elmer and Martha McLean. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Connie; his two sons, Mike and Grant; two daughters-in-law, Michelle and Tammie; five grandchildren, Marc, Mitchell, Aubrey, Alex, and Megan; and five great-grandchildren, Graham, Madelyn, Mason, Bentley, and Brooks. He is also survived by his brother, Clyde, with whom he often talked and worked on projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Kathryn Dodds.
T had a remarkable career at West Texas Utility (WTU), where he worked for 31 years. He started at WTU right after graduating from Howard Payne University in 1962 and retired as the Director of Risk Management and Environmental. T’s entire career was spent at WTU, a testament to his dedication and loyalty.
T was genuinely respected by everyone he met, and in return, he respected everyone he encountered. He admired those who were hardworking and family-oriented, reflecting his own values. He lived his life right and to the fullest. We are lucky to have countless memories and carry a part of him that we will pass on. His grandkids describe T as forever encouraging and lighthearted, traits he kept even through his final days, along with his sense of humor. His demeanor always kept us excited and looking forward to our next visit to the ranch, whether it was to pick up a project, share a funny story, or deliver exciting news. In all his dealings, whether big or small, T always responded with the utmost respect and positivity, which we all learned to appreciate. He created countless memories as he taught his children and grandchildren to weld, fabricate almost anything, repair equipment, build fences, drive a stick shift, hunt, fish, and so much more.
T was a cherished friend to many, a fact evident during his annual dove hunt, a gathering of friends he had made over the years. This special event was a highlight for T, as he enjoyed sharing stories and being present with those friends who loved and appreciated him. Storytelling and listening to others were skills he excelled at throughout his life.
We will forever be reminded of T’s mark through his perfectly fabricated designs implemented at the ranch. Whether it was a cattle guard, hydraulic cattle pens, custom-built skid steer attachments, or structures, he could always count on the family to help get it done along with his expert supervision. These projects reflect his heart for engineering, dedication, and hard work. Most importantly, they are built to last for generations, a true representation of the legacy he has left behind.
The family will gather for a private “Celebration of Life” to honor T.
