Elisa Nuñez, age 82, of Coleman died Friday, May 17, 2024 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene surrounded by her family. There will be a recital of the Holy Rosary 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 followed by a visitation at 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street in Coleman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 East College Avenue in Coleman. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Elisa Medrano on August 7, 1941 in Coleman to Melchor Medrano and Matilde De La Rosa Medrano. Elisa was a selfless, humble and faithful soul. She was always putting others needs before hers. She was the caregiver to so many throughout her life. Never did she worry more for herself than for others who needed her support. Whether those in need were her boys, her daughters, her family or her friends, she made a way to relieve their burdens. Elisa was a great role model to everyone she met. She was the epitome of motherhood and work ethic. She would do anything to support her family and friends, from working multiple jobs to making enchilada plates and tamales.
Elisa grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. After graduation, she attended Cisco Jr. College. Elisa worked as a Teacher’s Aide with the Coleman Independent School District for many years. She loved helping students with their schoolwork. She served so many while she worked for Coleman ISD. She considered so many individuals family, some even came to call her Mom. She was a faithful Catholic parishioner and member of the Guadalupana’s of Sacred Heart in Coleman, Texas.
Nothing made her more proud than to see her children and grandchildren do what they loved most. She loved travelling to football, softball, and baseball games, cheerleading competitions and special ceremonies. Also, the trips she took with her sisters and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Gil Nuñez and wife, Marilu, of Ballinger, Christopher Mel Nuñez and wife, Julie of Cypress, Rick Nuñez and wife, Julieta of Coleman; four sisters, Lydia Saucedo of Abilene, Mary Ann Gallegos of Coleman, Lollie, Medrano of Irving, Mary Lou Garrett of Coleman and one brother, Melchor Medrano, Jr. of Grand Prairie. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Xavier Nuñez, Edgar Nuñez, Caesar Nuñez, Connor Nuñez, Ryan Nuñez, Kinley Nuñez, Jayden Nuñez, Derek Nuñez, Colby Nuñez, Ricardo “R.J.” Nuñez, Alayna Nuñez, Jacob Nuñez and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Melchor and Matilde Medrano; one sister, Josephine Nuñez; three brothers, Jasper Medrano, Rudy Medrano and Tommy Medrano.
