Brownwood ISD issued the following information Thursday:
The Brownwood ISD (BISD) Board of Trustees met for a regular session meeting on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. The session was called to order by Board President, Michael Cloy, who also gave the invocation. Coggin 6th Ukelele Club members Caleb Galindo, Adam Duran, Valeria Valadez-Trejo, Natalee Seubert, Logan Goodrich, and Aiden Scott led the Pledge of Allegiance.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE
The Coggin 6th Ukelele Club performed the songs “Hakuna Matata” and “Lava” led by music teacher, Megan Yeats.
INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
BISD Superintendent, Dr. Joe Young provided a reminder regarding the upcoming
Brownwood ISD summer learning program, Camp Adventure: Roar on the Shore. The program is free for Brownwood PK-5th grade students and will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 10-27 and July 8-18. Participating students will receive free meals, transportation, and days filled with exciting enrichment activities. Roar on the Shore will take place on the Coggin Elementary
School campus. Additional details regarding the program and registration can be found on the website at https://www.brownwoodisd.org/summerlearning.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
The Board entered executive session at 7:02 p.m. to discuss personnel and security matters. The Board exited the executive session at 7:42 p.m. and returned to regular session.
ACTION ITEM
Following the Executive Session, BISD Trustee Amary Doremus made a motion to terminate a probationary teacher contract. BISD Trustee Roderick Jones seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
AUDIENCE FOR GUESTS
Three individuals signed up to speak regarding upcoming changes to the Gifted and Talented (GT) program. Teresa Brandstetter, Sherri Land, and Ysmeen Chavez spoke about the merits of the GT program, and the benefits of the pull-out services provided to GT students. Sheri Land presented her daughter’s GT project which highlighted the use of Styrofoam lunch trays and their negative impact on the environment.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Dr. Young provided brief updates on 2023 Bond projects:
Multipurpose Indoor Facility
• Multipurpose indoor facility work ongoing, aiming for completion by August 2025.
• Snodgrass portion expected to finish by November this year.
Safety and Security
• Original cameras installed, additional cameras pending completion of new maps.
• Speakers and call buttons in all classrooms installed.
• Portable radios received.
Coggin Auditorium
• New seats installed, ADA improvements complete.
• Awaiting ADA inspection for project completion.
Facility Updates
• Gym floors at elementary schools finished.
• New middle school bleachers ordered, installation this summer.
• BHS Tennis courts nearing completion with remaining work on grass, drainage,
sidewalks, and signage.
• Baseball and softball facility improvements will be breaking ground June 3, with
demolition and new turf work to commence. New concession stand design is underway
due to floodplain changes.
• BHS & BMS Locker room renovation designs are near completion with minor changes
expected. Middle school renovation to begin in November. High school renovations
planned for 2025 after indoor facility completion.
Gordon Wood Stadium:
• Stadium turf replacement underway, new lights to be completed by August 1st.
• Additional stadium renovation designs are expected in August.

DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
* Special Populations: A Special Populations Program Overview was provided by
BISD Special Populations Director Rebecca Faulkner. The number of students currently within Special Populations categories include 612 under Special Education (SPED), 287 under Section 504, and 85 in the Dyslexia Program. Additional data included trends in Special Education, a breakdown of special populations students per campus, and updates in Special Populations for the 2023- 2024 school year. The report noted updates to Dyslexia services, Child Find/Initial Evaluations, and Special Education Results Driven Accountability. Results showed growth in all but one area of special education state assessment scores.
2023-2024 TEACHER INCENTIVE ALLOTMENT (TIA) REPORT
A report was provided outlining the 2023-2024 TIA payouts for designated Brownwood ISD teachers. A total of 34 BISD teachers are designated (Recognized, Exemplary, or Masters) and will receive a combined total of $309,284.00 through the program. The report also included a breakdown of allotments by campus and funding amounts at each campus by designation.
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF TEACHER SALARY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2024-2025
The Board reviewed the Teacher Salary Schedule for 2024-2025 continuing with the established steps and teacher incentives. BISD will continue to fully fund employee-only TRS-ActiveCare 1- HD coverage. BISD Trustee Roderick Jones made a motion to approve the presented Teacher Salary Schedule for 2024-2025, along with the teacher incentives included. BISD Trustee Eric Evans seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AT RISK (CMAR) FOR THE LOCKER ROOM RENOVATIONS & ADDITIONS
May 2023 Bond Program Locker Room Renovations & Additions that includes the following: Renovation of athletic locker facilities at Brownwood Middle School, renovation and addition to athletic locker facilities, and ADA improvements for spectator gym seating at Brownwood High School. Following the official bid process and evaluations, Bond Program Manager Tammy Gray recommended Teinert Construction. BISD Trustee Justin Posey made a motion to authorize the district to negotiate a contract with Teinert Construction to serve as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Gym/Locker Room Remodel in conjunction with the 2023 Bond Program. BISD Trustee Codie Smith seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
