Howard Payne got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Lady Jackets put nine runs on the board and beat the Concordia (TX) Tornados 9-1 Tuesday.
Bree Cason (10-12) started in the circle and picked up the win for Howard Payne (12-21, 4-14). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Jackets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Howard Payne got an RBI single from Makayla Wesley, scoring Elise Munoz from second base.
The Tornados failed to push any runs across before the Lady Jackets built on their lead in the third inning. The Howard Payne offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run walk off the bat of Munoz, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Lady Jackets.
Concordia (TX) narrowed Howard Payne’s lead to 5-1 before the Lady Jackets stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the sixth inning. The Lady Jackets bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Ashley Pruiett. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Howard Payne coasted to the win.
