AUSTIN – Halfway through the UIL Class 2A boys golf state tournament, Goldthwaite Eagle freshman Walt Thompson finds himself alone in first place
Thompson fired a round of 70 over the first 18 holes at Lions Municipal Golf Course Monday, and owns a two-stroke lead over Ty Chrisman of Centerville and Danner Price of Sanford-Fritch, who both carded 72s, with 18 holes to go beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Lindsay’s Landry Rogers posted a 73 while Sonora’s Dylan Ford, Sundown’s Isaiah Igo, and Farwell’s Cooper Nichols finished with rounds of 74.
In the team standings, the San Saba Armadillos are 10th after tallying a 359 team score. Sonora (307), New Home (314) and Lindsay (319) are in the medal positions at the halfway point.
For San Saba, Winton Lackey recorded an 87 trailed by Sterling Proffitt with a 90, Shooter Wright and Skyler Romero with 91s and John Ham with a 94.
