Wayne Stone, age 85, of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 in Brownwood. Wayne Stone, age 85, of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 in Brownwood. The family will host a celebration on Saturday, May 11, at 11 AM at the First Methodist Church CLC in Brownwood.
Wayne was born on February 12, 1939 in Stephenville to Helon and Grady Stone. He graduated from Stephenville High School, class of 1957, then moved on to get an Associate’s Degree at Tarleton from 1958 to 1959. At Tarleton he was a letterman in baseball, basketball, and football. Wayne moved to Baylor University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and was a letterman un baseball in 1960 through 1961. Wayne met Rhonda Waller, and they were married on December 28, 1972 in Lake Wales, Florida.
Wayne spent his life being a teacher and coach in Florida, and several districts across Texas. When they moved to Brownwood, Rhonda and Wayne were members of the First Methodist Church. Wayne enjoyed time with his family, golf, wood working, and sports.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Rhonda Stone; children, Scott Stone and wife Shelly, Darcy Carlisle and husband Scott, and Roy Stone; grandchildren, Tyler Stone and wife Whitney, Brad Stone and wife Kara, Jason Stone and wife Taylor, Zach Carlisle and wife Amanda; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, BJ Stone and wife Susan, Betty Loudermilk and husband Joe, as well as many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
