The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Monday morning:
At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, April 14, the Brownwood Fire Department was called to 609 Norwood in Brownwood for a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews were presented with smoke showing in the rear of the structure. Flames were showing through the kitchen window. A fire attack was made through the rear of the house and the fire was knocked down quickly. The kitchen sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire was an unattended cooking fire. All residents were able to get out of the house with no injuries. Fire personnel cleared the house of smoke, all electricity was shut off, and the residents were able to stay with family members. No injuries to fire personnel.
Damages are estimated at $26,000.
Responding to the fire were Chief 92, Rescue 9, Engine 9, Engine 92, and Chief 93 with assistance from Lifeguard EMS, Oncor, Atmos, and the Brownwood Police Department.
The fire was under control in 9 minutes and units were on the scene for 1 hour and 6 minutes.
