GLEN ROSE – River Prado captured the District 6-4A boys singles tennis championship, while Blake Hutchins and Caleb Dietlin finished second in boys doubles, as did Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey in girls doubles, and will serve as Brownwood’s three entries in the Region I-4A tournament.

Prado defeated Hayden Burrows of Graham (6-1, 6-2) in Friday’s championship match after knocking off Jose Saavedra of Glen Rose (6-0, 6-0) and Scott Grimes of Graham (6-1, 6-0) on Wednesday.

Hutchins and Dietlin finished second Friday as they fell to Cortez and Hunter of Stephenville (6-4, 6-2) in the final, after defeating Donham and Sims of Stephenville (7-5, 6-2) and Noyola and Yoder of Graham (6-4, 2-6, 7-5).

Delgado and Hickey also finished as runners-up after defeating Pena and Roberts of Glen Rose (6-0, 6-0) Wednesday, and topping Haynes and Taylor of Stephenville (6-3, 7-5) Friday before falling to Moss and Young of Glen Rose (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).

In other tournament action, Eric Smith, in boys singles, took down Scott Grimes of Glen Rose (6-3, 6-2) Friday to earn third place after defeating Jace Young of Glen Rose (6-4, 6-0) and falling to Hayden Burrows of Graham (6-2, 6-3) Wednesday.

In mixed doubles competition, Trine Baugh and Ihana Figueroa upended Thrasher and Wright of Glen Rose (6-3, 6-7 [3], 6-2), fell to Foster and Cortez of Stephenville (6-3, 6-2) and defeated Williams and Reeves of Stephenville (6-2, 6-1) to place third.

In boys doubles action, Tyler Mitchell and Wesley Goodrich came in fourth as they defeated Staples and Staples of Glen Rose (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), then fell to Cortez and Hunter of Stephenville (6-3, 6-1) and Donham and Sims of Stephenville (6-2, 6-3) to finish fourth.

In girls doubles, Ashlyn Bundick and Claire Meinecke topped Brock and Wright of Graham (6-0, 6-1) but fell to Moss and Young of Glen Rose (6-2, 6-0) in the semifinals and Haynes and Taylor of Stephenville (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) to come in fourth.

In girls singles play, Anna Daniel defeated Jewell Morris of Glen Rose (6-1, 6-2), fell to Jade Dospapas of Graham (6-0, 6-1) in the semifinals and Stacey Gonzalez of Graham to finish fourth.

Avery Mair and Aiden Opltonik lost their only mixed doubles match Quails and Birdwell of Graham (6-0, 6-0), while Amy Deechaulene lost her only match in girls singles to Rose Cordes of Stephenville (6-0, 6-3).

The Region I-4A tournament will be held at McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock May 10-11.
