I voted no on the spending package considered in the U.S. House of Representatives today. I appreciate Speaker Johnson’s leadership in finding ways to cut wasteful spending. It was a difficult vote because of many important priorities for national security, including our military.
However, the southern border is one of the biggest national security threats facing our country, and we must find a way to compel the President to take steps to close the border. The scenes from our border, here in Texas, are the biggest existential threat to our nation. It is priority number one.
Speaker Johnson Visits the Permian Basin for Energy Week
I proudly hosted House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) in the Permian Basin for a rig tour with Diamondback Energy to kick off Energy Week in Congress. The U.S. House of Representatives voted on pro-energy legislation, including my bill to repeal President Biden’s harmful natural gas tax, this week as House Republicans work to restore American energy dominance.
I am extremely proud of the Permian Basin and all that it represents. From the hardworking men and women on our oil rigs to the innovative minds in our research labs, this region embodies the American spirit of ingenuity and resilience. The Speaker’s visit underscores the importance of our industry and community.
House Republicans are committed to fighting the anti-energy agenda of the Biden Administration and promoting pro-energy policies to restore American energy dominance and grow American jobs. A huge thank you to Diamondback Energy for helping arrange the visit and tour of the oil rig.
U.S. House Passes Natural Gas Repeal Act
I spoke on the U.S. House Floor in support of H.R. 1023, the Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act, which included my legislation to repeal the natural gas tax. On the campaign trail for president, Joe Biden vowed to shut down fossil fuel production. Almost four years later, he has used every tool at his disposal to make producing American-made energy difficult. The Biden Administration has repeatedly caved to radical climate activists, instead of focusing on lowering energy bills and helping secure our allies in Europe with a clean source of energy.
As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I will keep pushing for common-sense solutions to address our energy solutions and ensure the Biden Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency do not shut down American energy production. Watch here or below for my floor remarks.
Women’s Health Matters
I joined my colleagues in a press conference urging the United States Supreme Court to overturn the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval and deregulation of chemical abortion drugs.
The Biden Administration’s decision to allow dangerous life-ending chemical abortion drugs to be ordered online or purchased in a store without proper medical consultation or oversight is blatantly putting politics over the safety of women.
Together, we must hold the FDA accountable and demand that they prioritize the well-being of women over political agendas. Let us stand united in defense of life and safety, ensuring that every woman receives the care and protection she deserves.
Earlier this year, I led a bicameral amicus brief with 145 lawmakers supporting the lawsuit in the case of Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA. I will continue to be a voice for the unborn in Congress and safeguard the health of women against dangerous abortion drugs.
Oversight of Elections in Pakistan
I joined the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs to question State Department Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu–who oversees U.S. relations in Pakistan. The recent elections in Pakistan are alarming due to interference and the jailing of political opposition. Mr. Lu admitted in my questioning that Pakistan did not have a free and fair election. His testimony raises many concerns. Watch here or below for my full line of questioning.
Federal Air Marshals Need to Stay in the Sky
I introduced the No FAMS at the Border Act alongside Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) to prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from deploying Federal Air Marshals (FAMS) to the border unless Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas certifies to Congress there is a crisis at the Southern Border. The primary duty of Federal Air Marshals (FAMS) is to protect passengers aboard commercial aircraft—not process more illegal aliens into the country. The concerning trend of increased deployments of air marshals to the border since President Biden took office jeopardizes flight security.
The President should enforce the laws already on the books to end the crisis at the border instead of diverting essential security officials away from their crucial roles. I am proud of this legislation that will ensure Federal Air Marshals stay in the sky. Read more about the bill here in Fox News.
