Elizabeth was born to James Clair and Anna Painter Brown on March 26, 1932 in Lewis, lowa. She grew up in a close knit family in the Tacoma, Washington area with her parents, brother Jim, sister Ellen and brother Gene. She graduated from Fife High School in 1949, and Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She was known to everyone there as Betty or Brownie. In young adulthood she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a devoted believer her whole life.
In 1961 she moved to Reno, Nevada where she met and married the love of her life, John Burleson. They had many wonderful years together in a variety of places including Washington, British Columbia, Canada, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, New Mexico and Texas.
John and Elizabeth were married almost 40 years and had three children, John, Katie and Lisa, whom she loved deeply. She was a wonderful mother who always made time for her children. Through many job changes and moves, she always made home feel special and her children feel secure. She was incredibly generous with her children and their spouses and her grandchildren – always trying to help in any way she could.
When she wasn’t working as an RN she enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, crochet, quilt making, knitting and gardening. She loved going to Washington to visit family and friends including her classmates from Tacoma General School of Nursing. They had many wonderfut reunion gatherings over the years.
Elizabeth adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished every moment she spent with them. She was a quiet person but loved being with people whether it was spending time with family or with friends, including her daily Scrabble games with her neighbor and friend Becky, and her weekly card games with her card group and Jolly Elders. She was a faithful member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church for almost 41 years and made many close friends that she dearly loved, especially in the Joy & Dorcas Sunday School Classes.
Elizabeth is survived by her children John & Anita Burleson, Katie & Troy Rhodes, Lisa & Bobby Bennie, her sister Ellen Cheesman, her brother Gene Brown, her grandchildren Nick & Victoria Bennie, Shelby Rhodes & David Parker, Jonathan Burleson, Ethan & Tristyn Rhodes, and Grace Bennie & Isaae Simmons. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Lucas Harlow and David Parker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband John Burleson, her parents James and Anna Brown, her brother Jim Brown and wife Susie, and her brother-in-law Merle Cheesman.
