The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:
The Brownwood Fire Department was called to the intersection of 14th Street and Coggin Avenue at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19 for the report of a natural gas leak. Upon arrival, FD personnel found a gas line hit in a front yard where a contract company was digging a hole. Atmos was contacted and en route to the above location. Due to the gas leak and the wind direction it was determined that some residents needed to be evacuated. FD personnel evacuated two citizens and shut down the roads for one block in all directions. There were no reported injuries. Atmos stopped the leak and all citizens that were affected were notified that they could return to their residents.
It took 50 minutes to resolve the incident and fire crews were on scene for 1 hour and 22 minutes.
