Bowman Collects 4 RBIs in 13-3 Victory Over Blackburn

 Seth Bowman collected four RBIs to help power the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets past the Blackburn Beavers 13-3 on Tuesday.

Anthony Cook (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Howard Payne (6-8). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out two. Bryant Chambers also pitched well, going two innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on four hits, walking none and striking out four.

Bowman went 2-for-3 with a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Yellow Jackets. Freddie Matthews furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI. Tanner Benson also chipped in for Howard Payne, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Yellow Jackets scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Howard Payne broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good at 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI triple off the bat of John Garza, scoring Kayden Kelley.

GAME NOTES
» Benson picked up three base hits in the game for Howard Payne.
» Bowman drove in four runs for Howard Payne.
» Howard Payne’s highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed four runs across.
» The Yellow Jackets had control of the rest of the game after moving ahead of the Beavers 2-0 in the bottom of the second.
» Four Yellow Jackets had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Yellow Jackets had a total of 15 hits.
» The Yellow Jackets out-hit the Beavers at a 15-8 clip.
» Grant Pfaff stole two bases in Tuesday’s game.
» Howard Payne went 5-for-13 (.385) with runners in scoring position.
» Howard Payne pitchers limited Blackburn to just 2-for-13 (.154) with runners in scoring position.
» Howard Payne pitchers faced 40 Blackburn hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out 10.
» The Yellow Jackets drew five walks from Blackburn pitching.
» Bowman led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
» Blackburn was led offensively by F. Ruiz, who went 3-for-3.
» C. Partin led the Beavers pitching staff, throwing one shutout inning.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Marshall, Texas as they take on East Texas Baptist in a three-game series on March 15th and 16th. Games are set for 7:00 PM on Friday and 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Saturday.
