KINGSLAND – On a windy, chilly day at Legends Golf Course Saturday, the Brownwood Lions were unable to duplicate their hot start at the state preview golf tournament and finished fifth overall.
The Lions shot a 296 Friday and led by two strokes, but followed with a 330 Saturday for a 626 composite score. That left Brownwood behind Bridgeport (597), which won the event, runner-up Andrews (614), and Fredericksburg (624) and Wimberley (624), which tied for third place.
Individually, Sir Bubba Jones placed sixth overall as he followed Friday’s 66 with a round of 83 Saturday for a 149 total, nine shots back of reigning Class 4A state champion Jaxon Donaldson of Wimberley (140), who won the event.
Hudson Reagan posted a 74 Saturday after a 77 Friday for a 151 total, good for a tie for ninth place. Caleb Modawell followed an opening 83 with a closing 73 for a 19th-place total of 156. Will Stewardson shot an 86 Saturday to go with his Friday 83 for a 169 score, which was 47th, while Peyton Sharp carded a closing 87 to go with an opening 83 for a 170 total, which left him tied for 50th place.
The Lions’ next tournament is slated for March 19 as they compete in the Dinosaur Invitational at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose, their final action before the 36-hole District 6-4A tournament March 25-26 at Abilene’s Diamondback Golf Course.
