GRAHAM – For the second consecutive day, the Brownwood Lady Lions earned a split at the Graham softball tournament.
After dropping a 7-1 contest to Snyder in the first game, Brownwood rebounded with an 11-7 triumph over Bowie.
The four-run victory over Bowie featured a five-run first inning for the Lady Lions, who led 5-2 after two innings, 7-5 after three, and 11-6 going to the bottom of the fifth of the time-limit shortened contest.
Brownwood finished with 15 hits – three each by Peyton Pena and Lila Mares, two apiece from Chloe Walls, Karina Mata and Addison Welch, and one each from Jeniffer Romero, Jakayla Peek and Maitlyn Esquivel. Mata and Welch recorded two RBIs apiece trailed by one each from Mares, Walls and Peek.
Esquivel went the distance in the circle for Brownwood, tossing five innings with five earned runs allowed on 12 hits with one strikeout and six walks. The Lady Lions defense committed four errors.
In the six-run loss to Snyder, the Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Snyder answered with two in the bottom half, four runs in the third, and one more in the fourth inning.
Brownwood tallied six hits – one each by Romero, Mares, Walls, Peek, Pena and Tynlea Wilson. Peek drove in Brownwood’s run.
In the circle, Wilson yielded two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
The Lady Lions (5-8) will host Gatesville at 1 p.m. Tuesday in their final action prior to the start of the District 6-4A schedule.
