The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Friday afternoon:
On Friday, March 1, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., Detectives with the Brownwood Police Department received information from Texas DPS investigators of a wanted subject residing at a south Brownwood residence. Four separate residences were given as a possible location for the wanted female.
Detectives began looking at the various locations and ultimately observed the wanted female with another female in the 1300 block of 13th St. The females entered a vehicle and they traveled to the Dollar General store in the 2000 block of U.S. Highway 377 South.
As the vehicle pulled into a parking space, patrol officers got into position to detain the suspects. The suspect vehicle accelerated in reverse, almost striking a police officer who was on foot. The vehicle accelerated greatly and fled through the grass and onto a side street. Officers pursued the vehicle through several south Brownwood locations and around Austin Ave. and Magnolia St., where the suspect vehicle struck a pickup and continued to flee. The suspect vehicle continued eastbound onto several residential streets before crashing into a home in the 600 block of Roanoke.
Both females exited the vehicle and ran on foot southbound through several backyards, jumping multiple fences. Brownwood patrol officers followed the females and were able to end the foot pursuit in the 3000 block of Hemphill St.
Arrested at the scene were 19-year-old Jasirah Thomas and 19-year-old Karamiah Applin, both of Houston. Both females were transported to the Brown County Jail on various charges which have not been posted as of 4:00pm.
