BROCK – The Brownwood Lions held off Clyde Thursday evening to snap a three-game skid after falling to Fort Worth Southwestern Christian in the first game at the Brock tournament Thursday.
In the 6-5 victory over Clyde, the Lions trailed 2-0 heading to the fourth inning where they scored four runs, then added two more in the fifth to build a 6-2 cushion. Clyde pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth before the game ended due to time limit at the end of the frame
The Lions collected six hits – two from Eli Hill and one apiece by David Turner, Logan Posey, Cole Miller and Antonio Ybarra. Hill and Ybarra both drove in two runs while Austin Wright also collected an RBI.
On the mound, Austin Pittman, Yovani Figueroa and Turner combined to surrender three earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and seven walks.
The Lions started the day with a 9-0 loss at the hands of Fort Worth Southwestern Christian.
Brownwood mustered just three hits in the contest – two singles by Jordyn Nickerson and a double by Turner.
Southwestern scored once in the bottom of the first inning, twice in the second and tacked on its final six runs in the third.
Wright pitched all four innings for the Lions and allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks. The Brownwood defense committed the game’s only error.
The Lions (5-3-1) will conclude tournament action Friday as they face Holliday at 1:30 p.m. Friday and host Brock at 3:45 p.m.
