Margie “Gail” Whiteside passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on May 20th, 1936, in the quaint town of Bangs, Texas, where she spent her formative years and developed a lifelong allegiance to the Bangs Dragons.
Gail pursued her education with diligence, attending schools in Bangs before furthering her studies at Tarleton State University, where she earned her degree in hotel motel management. It was during her time in Stephenville that she crossed paths with Glenn Earl “G.E.” Whiteside, whom she married on May 26, 1956. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that spanned nearly seven decades and was blessed with the joy of raising two beloved sons.
Professionally, Gail lent her talents to various establishments, including Howard Johnson’s, The Capri Hotel, and National Car Rental in Amarillo, Texas. However, her heart never strayed far from her roots in Bangs, where she and G.E. ultimately retired to care for her parents, Dena and “Lee Boy.” Gail dedicated herself to maintaining their home and also took on the responsibility of overseeing the Mukewater Cemetery, tirelessly volunteering her time for over two decades to ensure its immaculate upkeep.
Beyond her professional and community contributions, Gail found fulfillment in simple pleasures. She had a passion for sewing, found solace in attending church services, and had a soft spot for caring for any neighborhood cats she encountered. Her nurturing spirit extended not only to her family but to the broader community.
Gail is survived by her two sons, Kreg Whiteside and Rodgie, along with his partner, Jana, and her grandchildren, Sam and Alyssa Whiteside, who were a constant source of joy in her life. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In her passing, Gail reunites with her husband, Glenn Earl, her parents, Dena and Lee Boy, and her brother, Doc Brown, who preceded her in death. While her physical presence may be gone, her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A small gravesite burial will be held privately by the family. They extend an invitation to all friends and relatives to join them for an open memorial gathering at the gravesite on March 23rd at 1:00 pm, where they will celebrate Gail’s life and legacy together.
In Lieu of flowers Gail’s family would like donations to be made to Mukewater Cemetery, 968 Cole Farm Lane, Bangs, Texas 76823.
