Impeachment Manager for Trial of Secretary Mayorkas
Last week, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on two Articles: Willful and Systemic Refusal to Comply with the Law, and a Breach of Public Trust.
It is now the Senate’s responsibility to hold a thorough trial and show the evidence to the American people. I have been named an Impeachment Manager in the Senate Impeachment Trial of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Secretary Mayorkas’ policies and actions have resulted in more than 9 million aliens entering this country illegally—including known and suspected terrorists, drug and human traffickers, and known MS-13 gang members. This includes over 1.5 million illegal gotaways who evaded arrest and are living in the interior of the United States. The federal government and our law enforcement agencies have no idea who these people are or what their intentions are inside this country.
Any vote to table or dismiss the impeachment trial will betray the security of this country and the Senate’s constitutional responsibility.
It is a sad day when Congress is left with no options but to impeach a Cabinet Secretary. I will proudly represent the interests of Texans in laying out the case for why Secretary Mayorkas deserves to be impeached for the national security crisis he has created at our border.
President Biden’s Student Loan Bailout Scheme Continues
Wednesday, President Biden announced that he “canceled” $1.2 billion in student debt. In reality, this is an unconstitutional bailout and the debt is not canceled or forgiven—it will be paid for by hardworking American taxpayers. The latest announcement has rightly led to some confusion, considering the Supreme Court ruled in June of 2023 that the Biden administration overstepped its authority through the Administration’s first attempt to “cancel” up to $400 billion in student loans.
President Biden is attempting to get around the ruling of the Supreme Court with a NEW plan to bail out student loans known as the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan. I proudly voted with the House of Representatives to block the implementation of SAVE in December 2023. Unfortunately, the legislation was never taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate.
The Supreme Court already ruled that President Biden’s student debt bailout schemes are unconstitutional. His decision unjustly imposes an excessive burden on hard-working American taxpayers who should not be forced to shoulder the responsibility for student debt that is not their own.
I will continue working to protect the hard-earned dollars of American taxpayers and prevent further economic strain.
