While Brown County’s 11-man football programs experienced some significant changes in Thursday’s UIL biennial realignment, it pales in comparison to the hands three of the schools on the outskirts of the county were dealt.
First in Comanche, the Indians made the move up to Class 3A Division I and found themselves placed in District 3 where their future league foes will include Breckenridge, Clyde, San Angelo TLCA, former 4A school Sweetwater and perennial power Jim Ned. Breckenridge is the only team in the new district not to reach the playoffs last year.
The last two seasons Comanche had been paired with Jacksboro, Millsap, Merkel, Eastland and Dublin in district competition.
Down in Goldthwaite, the Eagles also made a classification change with a drop to Class 2A Division II, but their new district may be tougher than the one they left behind in the Class 2A Division I ranks
Goldthwaite is just one of two teams, along with Meridian, west of Interstate 35 in the new District 10-A Division II, which also features Bremond, Chilton, Frost, Hubbard, Wortham and Mart.
The Eagles are leaving a district that included Tolar, Coleman, Bangs, San Saba, De Leon and Hamilton.
While San Saba isn’t change classifications, the Armadillos are shifting regions. After the move from Region I to Region II two years, San Saba has now relocated to Region IV of Class 2A Division I as the Armadillos will be placed in District 14.
League foes the next two years for the Armadillos include Harper, Holland, Johnson City, Thorndale and Mason.
Both Goldthwaite and San Saba are coming off 3-7 campaigns, while Comanche finished with an 8-5 mark in 2022.
